I just got SI's NBA Preview today. They predicted the Rockets to be 7th in the west, 9th best in the nba.

Last year we were just out of the playoffs for their 2002-2003 preview?

I say SI usually has a pretty good estimate, at least better than a many publications.

Ah, my signature from July 2003 is justified.

(Like I have any true idea how things will turn out.)

I was reading one of the season preview mags last month and I think Lindy's predicted us at a RIDICOLOUS 10th or 11th in the west and FIFTH in the midwest BEHIND Memphis. Crazy I say.

9th in the nba but only 7th in our conference. man can't we just change up the playoff format for a few years or something so the west can stop getting screwed.

ok.. with the Lakers/Spurs/Mavs/Kings all in a struggle for #1 I think the rest of the conference will shake out like this..

    5) T'Wolves
    6) Rockets
    7) Suns
    8) Portland

    hey, i'm optimistic.

I read an article somewhere (can't remember now) that the NBA was going to realign for the 2004-2005 season when they add the new team in Charlotte.

There will be three divisions in each conference, with the top seed in each division going to the playoffs, along with the next five teams seeded by record. Here is the text of the press release:

NBA plans to realign when Bobcats join

    Associated Press

NEW YORK - The NBA plans to switch to six five-team divisions for the 2004-05 season, when the Charlotte Bobcats become the league's 30th team.

The proposal, which includes having three divisions per conference instead of two, is expected to be approved formally by the board of governors, deputy commissioner Russ Granik said Wednesday. A vote could come as early as next month.

Eight teams from each conference still would make the playoffs: the winner of each division plus the teams with the next five best records in each conference.

The NBA will realign along geographic lines. New Orleans will move from the East to the West, and Charlotte will be in the East.

Granik said the regular-season schedule would be affected only minimally by the realignment.

No names were discussed for the new divisions. Currently, the Eastern Conference has the Atlantic and Central, while the West has the Midwest and Pacific.

    7th is pretty much accurate.
Portland is not gonna down easily, Randolph will play a huge part of that. He is a very decent PF and Portland is moving Rasheed to 3, I think. Tough, Tough, Tough.

Great the Hornets, a pretty good east team, will be thrown in the west while an expansion team that will win maybe 25 games the first three years combined will go to the east. The west is going to rule for a long, long time to come.
I think they should expand to 32 teams, a nice evenly divided number, with the new franchises going to Pittsburge (east) and St. Louis (west), while also getting the Clips to move back to San Diego. That would be best for the league.

the hornets barely make the playoffs in the east. they're the oldest team in the league and they'll be a year older. they're not even going to make the playoffs in the west. they'll be lucky to win 30 games. their big men aren't suited for the west either.

But they did make the playoffs! Plus, I could have sworn that I put they were a PRETTY GOOD team in the east which would be why they made the playoffs! They will be a whole lot better than the Bobcats will be for the next few years. Go back to sleep now!
