This new layout is disgusting and against almost every good website design principle. Here's why: 1. The new permanent banner ad atop the page takes up a quarter of the screen like a sad throwback to Netzero. 2. The menu bar underneath it, wastes even more precious space until a third of the screen is covered by these two elements. 3. Then, you have the shadowy overlay news ticker at the bottom, which requires clicking on the tiny X to destroy. 4. Sandwiched in-between all these is the actual content of the site requiring infinite scrolling to view. 5. Finally, the most important data; scores and game stats have been relegated to a tiny frame on the left where you must scroll endlessly again to find the information you are looking for because it can only fit two game boxes at a times. Enjoy carpal tunnel and arthritis! Sorry, I just needed a place to vent. NBA.com used to be a daily viewing shrine. Now, I have to look up scores and highlights via google search because it does the best job of presenting pertinent information in a minimalist user-friendly layout. Heck even BSPN does a better job of site design and 90% of their content is ad-laced spam. Seriously, NBA.com get your act together!
I agree with a lot of this. Its like they tried to go minimalist and completely failed to understand what that actually entailed... On a side note, why are you not using adblock? Its 2016, people are still complaining about ads? Opt out by default and opt in for sites you actually want to support.
also agree, the site is almost useless now. and I like reading stuff, not a big fan of them making it 98% video content (or at least it seems that way now).
1. Maybe you have a tiny screen or something because I lose only 20% of my screen to the ad/menu. But, I do agree with you on the principle of the complaint. 2. Someone is going to tell you that people always complain about site redesigns and they always get used to the new version and learn to love it. This is wrong. ESPN went to that facebook-like infinite scrolling design a few years ago. I still hate it after all this time. I expect to hate NBA.com's big tile design for a long time to come too. Spending more time on your website doesn't mean I'm happier.
Has anyone downloaded the App? Maybe they are trying to frustrate people into download it? The website is horrible.
I hate this new design, I used to be able to click on games and see the scores by the players and watch highlights after games. I don't see neither not to mention it takes for ever to loads because of the so many unnecessary highlights vids.
I completely stopped visiting the website. It's unnecessarily bulky and its hard to see box scores and other information. There stats page was **** before but it now seems worse. I use a combination of ESPN (for scores, box scores and highlights) and basketball reference (for stats).
What's the cleanest, no-nonsense site for scoreboard + boxscores/recaps? Every place seems to be getting more and more inundated with ads, video popups, etc.
It's horrible, it has been bad for years now. It used to be simple with just the scores on top and clicking on the score automatically triggered the page with recap, stats and highlights.
Welcome to the new era of media. This is exact how the media will distribute the info and data to you in this era, everything is like a fraction, and mixed with junks and ads, sometime you can't even tell what is real and what is fake and what is useful and what is junk, and hey they don't care or sometime they don't actually want you know also. This is how things work now. People actually like to read or want to believe Onion news than news from AP.
