Part of the truth is that the Rockets do not need Dmo's help for now. He could be useful but he is not needed. Dmo needs to play now, needs to show that he is healthy and can play on a high level. Rockets have the upper hand and Dmo's situation is getting worse. In light of this situation I think most of us are just showing empathy towards the player. And we cannot wait to know more about this whole ordeal ASAP.
DMo's back is shot. It probably cannot sustain NBA level play for any prolonged period. He knows, I know it. Probably even the greasy Keith Jones knows it. DMo is just looking for that one big fat contract, Chandler Parsons style to chill in poshed up suits on the bench every game day.
Probably discussed many times before, but the Rockets must've done tons of medical tests on Motiejunas when he was their player, especially after the Detroit fiasco. So I can't imagine what they could have discovered in this final physical that they hadn't already known before.
The real question is how his back might have progressed or regressed between the end of the season and now. I'm sure the Rockets haven't conducted any tests or imaging since last season.
Why would they have done that? At that point he was going to be on their roster (and payroll) for the rest of the year regardless. There would be no benefit to the team to do this.
Not all teams do the exact same thing for physicals. Also, it is possible for a team to worry about injuries less than others (see: Portland with Oden/Roy).
The Rocket's GM was probably instructed by the league to not discuss publicly. It's not a damnation on the organization that they're not discussing... that's the way things work. Teams are prohibited from discussing players under certain circumstances. On top of that, the organization, to include the Owner and GM, don't owe anyone outside of the parties involved an explanation. As much as we'd all like to know what's going on, it's truly not any of our business. If you want that changed buy the team.
We don't have to know everything in short Dmo's back is probably not trust worthy of 30+ million dollars. The rest is probably just legal stuff.
The player should come first, Dmo is no star but he is obviously talented. Teams are scared. Dmo does not trust Morey and his asset management and wants a clear start. That is legit. The most humane thing is find a way to save Dmo's NBA career. This is the least the Rockets can do for a guy that had good moments with the Rockets team.
