There is no QB controversy but it's pretty clear this team has some problems. If Dez is just being single covered because the top corner on the opposing team is good enough to cover him, then it frees up the safety to do different things defensively and NY took advantage of that. Dak didn't have a great game by any stretch but Dez really is the one who shoulders the blame for this loss imo. He had a poor game. He slipped causing an INT and then he fumbles on a potential game-winning drive with 2 minutes left. He hasn't played well at all when playing NY this season....it seems primarily because NY has a lock-down corner who can guard him now. Dez can be good but good corners shut him down too often and this is fact. It's the the reason he is not a top five receiver. Losing two games by a combined 4 points isn't a reason to panic. There were some bright spots in the game. The defense was pretty good. If we do have to play NY again in the playoffs, then I would have rather lost this game as it's hard for any team to beat the same team 3 times in one season. I like our chances against them at home if we have to play them again...assuming we can clinch home field advantage. But, I don't think this team is as good as their record. They ran into some teams like GB and Pittsburgh who were in the midst of playing bad losing football. They have had some crazy luck and breaks as well. I'll just say if we had to play some of these teams we beat previously again today the way they are playing now....those games would be much tougher and probably would be losses. Sometimes, you just catch teams at the right time and that was part of this win streak. There's definitely reason to doubt this team and even Dak at this point. The last two games have been brutal for the offense going up against good defenses. And, Dak has actually looked like a rookie versus the overachiever. But, Romo isn't the answer...especially having not played for a while. However, every team goes through down, struggling periods in the season. Really, it comes down to what they learn from it and if they can correct it before it really matters. First priority is just locking up home field advantage. But, this strategy of a run-pass balance where they control the clock and win time of possession by sustaining long drives is going to be a lot harder to achieve in the playoffs obviously against better teams. We may have better chances doing it at home than on the road, though.
Been saying for a while this kind of stretch for Dak was inevitable. It's fortunate for the Cowboys it happened before the playoffs. Now after the loss, it's up to Dak and their offense to recalibrate. They have 3 very winnable games left to figure things out. It's sooooo tough for a rookie QB to lead a team to the Super Bowl. The odds are heavily stacked against them IMO. Right now, I'd say the chances of the Cowboys losing at home in the Division round is very high.
It doesn't really matter what the Cowboys do from here on out. They have already greatly overachieved with a rookie QB and a rookie RB. You could expect good things from the latter but the former was a total shock. This season was in shambles when Romo went down. There was no question they were going to finish last or around there. The defense is average to good but no one is accusing them of being SB caliber. The offensive line is pretty good but they struggle against better defenses. There's no good reason to pick this team to go far in the playoffs. If they do, then all you can be is pleasantly surprised. All the premature Super Bowl talk because of a win streak is just people losing their objectivity and ignoring the team's weaknesses jumping on the bandwagon. I'm sure the Giants think they are really hot sh_t right now but the fact is they barely won both games and they just came off a Pittsburgh game that they lost convincingly. Both games could have gone either way depending on one or two plays.
Dak has gotten to play flag football all year. Giants were all over him last night and he looked similar to Brock. This game shows how important having a good OL is. Bad Pass Blocking led to Dak looking like a 5th round rookie.
WOW, so let me get this straight. Dak Prescott went from mvp candidate to back to the bench in one game lol. i guess 11-2 doesnt buy what it used too huh. If Dak didnt know he was a black qb playing in the NFL.. he does now... this is crazy. carson wentz, jared goff and guys like blake bortles never have their job questioned after a **** performance lol... RACISM IS ALIVE AND WELL IN THE NFL
Folks, "racism is alive and well in the NFL" because one troll on Clutchfans doesn't like what another troll posted. Go figure.
Jason Garrett having to come out and declare prescott as the starter after just having an 11 game win streak is insane
Oh I'm glad you made it through the night. With so many black QB's having terrible performances I was worried you might hurt yourself.
The 4 games before this he has like 110QB rating. He has pretty much been better than Romo has been in any stretch of his career.
Dak wasn't very good against the Vikings regardless of the passer rating. The last two games represent his lowest outputs of the season by far. To be fair, both defenses were pretty ferocious. The next two weeks will say a lot. The offense needs to roll against the Bucs and Lions. Dak needs to be the 20/30, 250 yd range against both teams.
Let's not forget Romo is a top quarterback. With this offensive line and now one of the best running backs in the league plus a healthy Dez, I think it's a mistake not to use him. This could cost the Cowboys big time.
Whether or not he should be benched is one thing, but it is a reasonable question regardless of Prescott's race simply due to the fact Dallas has an established QB on the bench and the Cowboys are certainly Super Bowl contenders. Osweiler did an admirable job for the Broncos last year (not nearly up to what Prescott has done the majority of the time this year), yet he was benched after a stretch of 3 games where he averaged right at 300 yards per game and threw 4 TDs and 1 interception because he threw 2 interceptions against the Chargers. Goff, Wentz and Bortles aren't involved in Super Bowl scenarios and they are young QBs needing the continued experience.
Tons of Cowboy fans in Dallas and radio hosts in Dallas are saying Dak needs to do well this game or it could be leading to a Romo start in their next game vs. Detroit
Dak is obviously the future but they need to think what his upside is this season. If they don't think Dak can win a Super Bowl, they should look at Romo. There's a chance starting Romo makes them worse but if they think the upside is higher for Romo this season I think it's worth it. If they do start Romo, this season becomes Super Bowl or bust for them. They have to live with the second guessing and criticism if Romo fails to succeed.
Not sure what you are talking about. Against Minnesota 67% completion, 7.7 yards per pass, 1 TD, 0 Int and 108.3 passer rating. Dak played well but the offense couldn't sustain drives because of a ton of penalties that Dak had no control over. By the way, Cows won. Against Washington 71% completion, 8.1 yards per pass, 1 TD, 0 Int and 108.9 passer rating. Dak was very good against Washington. The offense scored 31 points and could have scored more. I think you have a weird idea of what not looking good means. Who in the hell cares if you pass for 190 yards. Dak only through the ball 24 times against Washington and 18 times against Minnesota if you are looking for a reason he didn't pass for 200+ yards. The Cowboys are not a pass dominate team and they are very good at being a balanced offense so why do you care if Dak passes for 200+ yards? I sure as hell don't care. Dak did not play well against NYG in the cold weather.
I like Tony and have always said that Jerry screwed him by not putting a quality offensive line in front of him. But who would anyone have confidence in Tony Romo winning a divisional play-off game since he has lost every time the Cowboys have made it to the divisional play-off round. They lost to Seattle on a dropped snap, lost to NYG on a dropped pass, got destroyed by Minnesota and lost to Green Bay on a dropped pass. With Tony its not always his fault but you always know it will be something. Dak is the teams quarterback. It would be foolish to switch now.
Tough choice, but I've always thought you danced with who brung you. Dak has plenty of time to figure a few throws out and we're back to winning.
