Snow's is still one of my favorite eating experiences ive ever had. The brisket when I went that day was on another level that it even outdid Franklin's that day. Every place has off days, and ive been where Snow's had an off day, but that first day will stay with me for a long time.

VooDooPope, why wouldn't you do that?

eta: that is great advice and now you'll have me checking the weather for cold, crappy Saturdays the rest of the winter.

I know the Big 3 in Lockhart are, not sure what other places you're curious about.

Brilliant. The next 3 Saturdays are out for me, but my New Year's Resolution is to take a roadie to Lexington.

No, I will not be getting there at 8 am, we've discussed this on this very page.

What about Kruetz? Anything new? My buddy & I did the Smitty's/Black's taste test a couple of months ago, didn't feel like hitting a 3rd place.

I think I need to visit the Austin area again. Been to Franklin and Snow's but want to try Franklin again just because it was so good last time. But I do feel like I should try something different since I don't go down there much. One of these days I need to stop by Louie Mueller's for some of their bbq.

In the meantime, I'll be heading out to Tennessee and Kentucky again hopefully soon, so I'll have to try some of that Memphis BBQ and Nashville hot chicken (most gloriously spicy fried chicken I've ever had), but I've heard rumblings about something called BBQ mutton that's supposed to be "the thing" in Kentucky, so if I get a chance I'll give that a try. Weather-permitting, it'll be a BBQ December to remember... :D

I remember the time I tried Snow's, I tried Kreuz the same day. Kreuz was good, but Snow's is still probably the 2nd best brisket I've had ... maybe slightly behind Franklin.

Considering I got to Lexington at 6am and just drove around until around 8-9am.... no. Haha. But Kreuz is still pretty good bbq. It's just not like it was about 15 years ago before BBQ turned into a crazed science. Back then Lockhart was the Holy Land and Salt Lick was another pilgrimage ... nowadays, the names have changed and others have upped their game.

I recently went back to the salt lick and everything was great besides the brisket .

    Try Valentina's.

Same here, especially when they were in the original building.

I like Corkscrew. Been disappointed with Killen's, but I like the kid's ambitions.

If your route from the hill country (where ever you are out there) takes you down 1431 through Jonestown let me know and I'll make the ride out there with you.

I ended up making beef and pork ribs yesterday on the new grill.

    Seasoned it Saturday before cooking.

Ran a little bit hot (was around 250 for the first 2 hours) but everything came out great after a 6 hour smoke. A little over cooked on the pork ribs, meat was falling of the bones, but everything still tasted great.

I'll be tackling a pork butt next weekend. Time for some sriracha sliders.

1431 runs right from Marble Falls through Balcones to Lago Vista to North Austin. We'll talk, I'm in. Maybe we'll invite tinman?
