If Dmo doesnt show up for 3 days he can be released and sign with Utah. He knows what he is doing and rockets will not match again. They disrespected him already by letting him sit out so long until another team showed interest
well, sucks for you DMO and Mr. Super Smart Agent for signing the Nets deal. And...was this deal known prior to signing the Nets deal? And if it came out AFTER the signature was dry on the Nets offer sheet why do it at all?? Something is missing.
One added layer to the frustration of this situation: If the Rockets do end up keeping DMo somehow, there is a decent chance that this will submarine any trade value he would have had later on down the road.
Does the contract has expiring date? Was the Nets contract just a contract to **** Rockets over realease him from RFA?
Yep. The last thing Morey wants is to get into another contract competition with another team just a day after we resolved the first one. Waive the physical and tell BJ to get over it by acting professional for once.
It expires in March, but we STILL own the right to match whatever future offers he receives in the NBA.
They could release him or as others have said fine him everyday until he shows up to practice. How did the Rockets disrespect him? He chose to sit out. He chose to hold out for a 'bigger' contract that never came. He declined the QO that would've made him a free agent in the summer and primed for a big contract. He has the medical issues multiple teams are afraid of. And yet its the Rockets fault?
how was he so sure that Nets won't match though. makes no sense that he wouldn't choose the bigger contract considering he is RFA
So this is the interpretation the Rockets could take that would allow them to keep right of physical and start docking Dmo's pay as if he's under contract: Per the CBA when RFA signs an offer sheet his team has for 3 days a "Right of First Refusal." Rockets exercised their ROFR thereby creating a legally binding contract (offer + acceptance) subject to a condition subsequent -- passing his physical. The condition subsequent is clearly for the benefit of the team, not the player, so it is the Rockets sole discretion on whether they want to void the contract, waive the condition subsequent, or somewhere in between. Once again, not super well versed in the CBA but I would think the best course is to waive the report period of the physical but not the physical itself, so that the contract is still subject to the condition subsequent, and the Rockets don't have to start paying until he takes the physical.
Can somebody start a D-Mo timeline thread (lol) to figure out when Utah made the offer. We know it was definitely after: (1) Signing with Brooklyn, and (2) Giving that quote about being happy to play for either the Nets or the Rockets.
Jokes on yule. BJ probably thinks he can sign both contracts and alternate teams throughout the year.
This seems cut and dry tampering. You can't talk to players under contract. Rockets aren't even allowed to talk to other teams or the Nets during the matching period to change the deal without consent from all three parties (both teams and the player)
So I just read an article from NBCSports talking about the issue and they had this to say "He has a right not to undergo the physical within two days of Houston matching, but that means the Rockets can hold him in limbo through March 1. On March 2, his offer sheet would become void, and heβd be a restricted free agent β and unable to sign with Brooklyn for a year. Houston could also elect to formalize its offer match or make him a restricted free agent β still without the ability to sign with Brooklyn for a year β at any point between now and March 1." http://nba.nbcsports.com/2016/12/06...source=TW @NBCSports&utm_tags=srm[basketball] Is this true?
Completely wrong on all counts. D-Mo can be released if we WANT to release him, which we won't. At this point, we will just sit on the contract and wait for him to make a decision while he continues to miss playing time and money. Whether or not we can fine him in the duration remains to be seen. We also never "disrespected" him. To say that is completely r****ded. We offered a QO and he refused to sign it. We offered him a contract and he refused to sign it. He signed a "better" contract and we matched it. We did not let him sit out, he chose to sit out.
