If they were to retire tomorrow (assuming they're not already retired), which of the following players would you consider worthy for the Hall of Fame? I consider all these guys to be borderline Hall-of-Famers... I'd understand if they were inducted, but maybe they haven't accomplished enough to warrant it. 1. Dikembe Mutombo - One of the greatest defensive big men of all time. Was it really just two years ago that he was averaging a double-double? 2. Alonzo Mourning - Great stats, average accomplishments. 3. Mitch Richmond - Has scored over 20,000 points, but most were on those awful Sacramento Teams. Has won a ring, but as a benchwarmer on the 2001-2002 Laker team. 4. Tim Hardaway - Underrated PG, IMHO. Career averages of 17ppg and 8apg. A poor man's Isiah Thomas, without the playoffs/finals heroics. 5. Chris Mullin - Great offensive player, average defensive player. Not doing much for the Warriors now that he's in the front office, but I always enjoyed watching him play. 6. Glen Rice - One of the greatest shooters of all time, (arguably) an integral part of the 1999-2000 Laker Championship team. 7. Jason Kidd - 2 trips to the finals, 2 exits from the finals. Career averages of 9.4 APG. 8. Grant Hill - Likely would have been a lock, had he not missed most of the past three seasons. Would have been the next Scotte Pippen, especially teamed up with Tracy McGrady. 9. Allen Iverson - The only player on the list to win an MVP award or scoring title. Career averages of 27ppg, career playoff average of 30ppg (third highest in NBA history) 10. Chris Webber - One of the greatest PFs of all-time. Unless the game is on the line.
I think the only guy out of this list who should make it is Kidd. Iverson has a chance too. The rest of them are very good players but I feel that none of them should be in the HOF. If Mourning wins a title I would put him in.
This isn't the MLB hall of fame. It isn't even the NBA hall of fame. It's the basketball hall of fame. Most of those guys will make it.
Grrr.. no edit. Anyway, the MLB hall of fame is very restrictive and the basketball one is not and these guys college careers will count towards their hall of fame credentials (as it is the basketball hall of fame and not the NBA hall of fame--there are guys who never played NBA in the hall).
ehh, like hobbs said it wouldn't surprise me if every single one of those guys made it. they're all excellent players, among the best of their time, but it'd be nicer if the hall was a little more like baseball.
Coleman did have hall-of-fame talent. If you watched him play though... it wasn't that he was a ball-hog, or didn't want to find the open man: he just didn't care.
Timmy was one of the greats until he blew out his knee. He just wasn't as quick after that and he had to rely more on his range than his quickness. He still had a very nice career, but as much as I would love to see him in the HOF I don't think he'll make it...
kidd is in. barring injuries iverson will be in. i feel webber is sometimes underrated (the clutch thing is overemphasized) but i wouldn't put him. maybe if the kings won a title. he's been pretty damn good. i'm not familiar enough with mullin's stats from when he was at his best (pretty sure he threw up 25 a couple of times) so maybe he's closer than i think. if dikembe makes it, they should let hakeem in twice. the others just haven't done enough or had enough team success to compensate for it i think.
As many of you have already said... My choices has to be Iverson or Kidd. Both have had large impacts in the NBA. If I had to choose between the two as of right now, Iverson simply because he has had a more impressive career. However, I believe Kidd will in the end have the more prosperous career and will exceed Iverson’s accomplishments.
AI and Kidd are gonna be in there. Chris Mullin has the best chance besides those two IMO, maybe just cause he was on the original Dream Team. However, I don't see him making the HOF for another 10-15 years.
only kidd and probably iverson would make it from that list. the maybes: Zo Mutombo the could haves: Hill
Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond were both superstars back in their day. Funny how time makes people forget. I see both getting in. Glen Rice was an incredible player in college and was a prolific shooter and scorer. His years at Michigan might get him in. Did Danny Manning make the HoF? Kidd should get in if he continues at his current pace for another 5 years or so. Iverson's a great scorer who will probably also get in, although he's got a pretty one-dimensional game.
Very true. Maybe some people aren't old enough to remember. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/chris_mullin/career_statistics.html http://www.nba.com/playerfile/mitch_richmond/career_statistics.html
mullin has the dream team aura on him and he was one heck of a player i agree. but i can't see him being a first ballot entree. 2nd or 3rd maybe. richmond? i surely hope he doesn't get in. he put up good numbers but what did he win? championships? mvps (all star mvp doesn't count)?
