I just don't think he's gonna be able to pull recruits here knowing he's probably only here two, maybe three years max.
Assuming those rumors are true, hoping we stick to our guns on the buyout. We'd need at least three years of Kiffin if he were to come (4+ would be ideal).
Disagree. I don't think UH should play hardass on the buyout. Take what you can get. Why do you "need" 3 or 4 years of Kiffin? Herman did great with 2 years, what was wrong with that?
If Kiffin wins 20+ games in two years like Herman, are you not going to take it and be happy? You gotta take wins no matter how you get them.
If u just look at the results, Houston has had it's best run over the last 10 years than at any time in our history where we had continuity. Continuity is a joke. The program has grown and expanded in an era of non-continuity. It's important to see the data for what it is. All the buyout does is limit our options to a hypothesis, when instead we should be following the data and the analytics.
Yeah Continuity in College Football is overrated. Rarely coaches last 4+ years at one place. I'm fine with coaches coming in and leaving as long as they leave the team better then when they came.
Its not the 1970's anymore the lawsuit by OU and Georgia changed the game forever to what you see today with haves vs have nots. We also got into what at the time would be equal to a P5 conference today so its easy to have continuity when you are in one of the biggest leagues in the country. You also have to know coaches weren't looking to jump from job to job back then either.
I don't really understand why they want him. He's never done well as a head coach and I think Saban wants him gone. I've never seen a head coach chew out an assistant like Saban did to Kiffen earlier this year. He called it an "ass chewing" after the game which is embarrassing if you are Kiffen. 5-15 with the Raiders and fired 7-6 with Tenn and left after 1 year to take a better job 28-15 with USC which is good but fired nonetheless after 3 years
Why do they want him? He was barely over 30 when he took the Raiders gig. He was, what, 35 at USC? A lot of people believe that he was too young and not prepared when he took the TEN & USC jobs and is older and more mature and ready to handle the job as a HC. Having said that, that is a big assumption. Kiffin also has a lot of things going for him. He is an exceptional recruiter and is young enough to relate to players. He is a very good offensive coordinator and is likely going to be able to recruit very well on the offensive side of the ball. He also is very charismatic and can be very convincing when he has to sell himself. I think he is a real risk. It isn't that I think he will lose at UH. I actually don't question his ability to coach. However, if he has violations, that could really hurt the programs efforts to get into a power conference. I know a lot of people are concerned he will bolt, and I don't doubt for a second that if a year from now ND or FSU offered him a job, he would be gone. However the only way he leaves is if UH is winning. If he wins, he will be the 4th coach out of the last five to pretty consistently have won. That is a pretty good span of time and it would be an attractive job and the school would be in a better position as well. I don't think Saban wants him gone. Kiffin has done very well at Alabama. I still really question the AD and Renu approving of Kiffin. However I knew he would be a finalist, TF likes him, he sells himself very well and he has tantilizing upside as a HC. He also is likely fine with UH paying Orlando 1.5-2 million to coach the defense as an associate HC. Just my opinion
The law of average is that he'll win more than lose. His hiring will make UH on the map, every game will be magnify which will be good for the school. You don't get this chance often, if it is open. UH got to catch the big fish.
It must be to continue having Houston appeal to potential recruits by growing nationally and to keep as many of them home. I agree with you that his record is not stellar (but it's improved) and he does have a history of leaving at any moment for another job opportunity (Tennessee for a year & off to USC the next). However, the thought process must be that he's matured and now understands how to run a program while being alongside Saban and winning SEC/national titles. Although, Saban did chew him out earlier in the year, how Lane handled it showed he was the only adult between them. I'm happy with the pool of candidates that we have and trust our administration to make the right choice. If he's selected over Les, it might be their concern of how the offense would run under Miles.
Whoaaaaaa, hold up. HOLD UP!!!! Y'all are really gonna hire Lane? What happened to all that talk about integrity, from fans and boosters? Not lying to kids? Not seeking out other jobs during the season? Honoring your word. All that??? How can any fan or booster blast Herman for leaving then turn around and hire a guy that had a school rioting for doing the exact same thing?
Where have you been, you are a little late to the party. This has already been discussed... a lot of fans are against adding Lane Kiffin and there is a real concern that the AD and Renu wouldn't approve his hire anyway. I also agree with you that no one at UH can complain about a coach leaving early/being deceitful if they hire Lane Kiffin.
