We should see the offer sheet before matching. Letting an overpriced "asset" go is not bad asset management. Sometimes players are priced beyond what is intelligent to match, no matter how non-essential some folks consider the salary cap. For instance, I am find with us paying up to 10M for D-Mo, but over that he is not worth it IMO.
Actually it looks like he did an amazing job. He is getting his client what he wants. Then Morey should have made that offer or negotiated a deal like San Antonio does instead of letting the league set the price like a cheapskate. DD
If Nets dont give offer sheet then DMo's career is over. Why? Because they had him for physical, that means they are dead serious about offer sheet and his health was only question. The answer to that question will be known soon.
I highly doubt that. D-Mo most likely wanted to be playing already and cashing in checks. BJ said as much, but also said he wasn't going to bid against himself. This is like Plan C or later for D-Mo and BJ.
Nope, they chopped Trader Joe's legs out from under him by waiting until after Oct 23rd - and Dmo will probably more than make up the missing checks with the better offer. Honestly, this is a great job by BJ if true. DD
DMo is nothing more than a trade filler @. This point. He may be a good 10pt 0.5reb type of guy but he wil not make us a contender. Morey should not match!
@WojVerticalNBA: Brooklyn had Houston RFA Donatas Motiejunas visit for a physical, weighing signing him to an offer sheet, league sources tell @TheVertical.
This together with Nets just now doing a physical definitely makes it sound like BJ wasn't doing much all summer, and there wasn't any hidden 2nd team just waiting to pounce. DMo is finally ready to sign and teams will test Morey's will to match. Since they are shopping around, doubt we're talking about something un-matchable.
I disagree. His offer would have to be a lot higher for essentially missing pay for a 4th of the season already and he is just not worth that much. He needs to make close to 9M to at least break even.
yeah. If after the physical they don't give him any offersheet that is a very bad reflection on Dmo's condition.
What are the chances Detroit simply got cold feet about trading their 1st round pick for DMo last season during a 3 game free fall as opposed to DMo actually failing their medical exams? Especially now that he passed Brooklyn's AND he did qualify for court time last season.
[Woj] Sources: Donatas Motiejunas close to signing Nets offer sheet "Motiejunas, who played 37 games last season, had been examined by Nets doctors and medical staff in the past week, league sources said, and the results gave comfort to Brooklyn to move forward on the offer sheet."
Sometimes you want a player, so you keep him around, like Parsons. Ultimately it didn't make sense to retain him. It would have been worse to match Dallas' offer. We tried and did trade DMo. It didn't work out. There isn't much you can do. It's not Morey's fault he cant pass a physical.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/source...se-to-signing-nets-offer-sheet-170625716.html After undergoing a physical with the Brooklyn Nets, Houston Rockets restricted free-agent forward Donatas Motiejunas is close to signing an offer sheet with the Nets, league sources told The Vertical. An offer sheet could be signed as soon as Friday, league sources said. Under league rules, the Rockets will have three days to match the offer and retain Motiejunas – or lose him to the Nets. Houston had been offering a deal in the $8 million annual range but short on guaranteed length. Depending on the robustness of the deal – in terms of money and guaranteed years – the Rockets have held a strong interest in matching an offer sheet for Motiejunas and getting him back into the team’s lineup, league sources said. Motiejunas and the Rockets had been unable to come to terms on an agreement, causing the 7-footer to miss training camp, Houston’s 11-7 start and early hold on fourth place in the Western Conference. The uncertainty around Houston’s willingness to agree to a long-term deal with Motiejunas had been focused on his recurring back issues. Motiejunas, who played 37 games last season, had been examined by Nets doctors and medical staff in the past week, league sources said, and the results gave comfort to Brooklyn to move forward on the offer sheet. For the Nets, this would be the third restricted free agent offer sheet executed under new general manager Sean Marks. July offer sheets to Portland guard Allen Crabbe (four years, $75 million) and Miami guard Tyler Johnson (four years, $50 million) were matched. With a franchise devoid of draft picks and talent, Marks has been determined to find creative ways to improve the Nets’ roster. Taking a shot at Motiejunas is a pre-emptive move on next summer’s free-agent market. The Rockets had a three-way trade that would’ve sent Motiejunas to Detroit voided last season. The Pistons’ doctors failed Motiejunas’ physical exam because of his back. http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/18179922/brooklyn-nets-likely-sign-donatas-motiejunas-offer-sheet The Brooklyn Nets will likely sign restricted free agent forward Donatas Motiejunas to an offer sheet as early as Friday, league sources told ESPN. The Nets have been discussing the move internally for some time and, according to one source, are "comfortable" with where the Lithuanian big man is medically after back issues scuttled the Houston Rockets' trade of Motiejunas to Detroit in February. No deal with Motiejunas is expected to happen before Friday, sources said, with Brooklyn playing host to the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night. If the Nets indeed go through with their plans to sign Motiejunas, Houston would then have three days to match any offer. Houston pulled its most recent offer to Motiejunas last Tuesday, when the sides couldn't come to terms on a deal before the Rockets' self-imposed Nov. 22 deadline for a deal.
