What do you think the chances of bringing Anderson back for next season are? In my opinion, the Rockets shouldn't resign him, but draft Shane Battier instead. Battier plays good defense and is a much better 3 point shooter than Anderson. Battier would also come cheaper than resigning Shandon, and if we land C-Webb, money might be scarse. There are quite a few other SG/SF available this year in free agency, that would help off the bench, and come cheaper than Shandon. Just a thought.

I am really torn over the Shandon situation. I like him a lot, but I'm not sure him being a Rocket is the best thing for either side. I would also like to have Battier.

I think we should try our best to keep Shandon. Our teams problem is defense, we need unselfish players that rebound, play good defense and don't demand the ball.

That's what Shandon is all about.

The only reason I'd accept for not re-signing Anderson is if they upgraded the position. I don't see who that upgrade would be realistically.

i have ben a fan of mr.Battier for a long time, but i think that if we do get lucky anuff to draft him it will still be a big risk. some players just don't do well in the nba. we all ready know what Shandon can do.
Band Geek Mobster is right we need some more defense. with cat and steve and if we do get c- web we have anuff offense if we can get 2 big defence players we can go far.

I think it depends on how much he's gonna cost.

I mean, I love the guy but he can't dribble, he can't shoot, he can't pass, and he can barely finish.

I wouldn't pay him anything more than what Mobely's making.

Shandon is one of our BEST finishers
Battier is ok . . but honestly he from DUKE
    READ: FLUKES

    Laetner
    Parks
    Ferry
    Hurley [MOST unfortunate]
    Hill [oft injured]

I cannot say they bad players or cursed or what
but . . .I think when it comes to Duke
players. . .the translation to the NBA is not
    really a good one.

Battier will probably be the top pick in the NBA draft so I doubt the Rockets will have any real chance to get him. Instead they need to keep Anderson and try their best to get Webber. Look how Shandon flourished when he had a good forward as seen in Utah. That is what made him such a free key agent almost two years ago. I say keep him and go all out for C. Webb

Uh, Battier won't be the #1 overall pick... I think he should, but the bulls or whoever the hell will have the #1 pick want a guy who has a 40 inch vert... Battier also won't sell tickets...

I say if we are lucky enough to draft Battier, then let Shandon walk...

Face it, Shandon is a very average player in the NBA... Battier at worst is an average player, I see him being solid...

Battier is the most prepared college player for the NBA... So he can contribute immediately...

In fact, I feel he's the most ready player since Tim Duncan...

The Rockets should do everything they can to get him, even if it means trading multiple #1's to move up into the top 10...

This guy will be a great role player for years to come...

I don't know if Battier or Morris would fit better. Morris is quiet and sometimes you have to look for him---which one? oh, there!---but he does a little bit of everything, especially rebound and defend.

Of course, Battier does the same, and even if the golden child image gets too much sometimes, the guy's good. Perimeter D. Gotta love it. And he's a leader and likes to be known as one.

Thing about Shandon, will he play 6th man? Who else would pay him if he walks? He deserves Mobley money and that's it; and if we draft either of the two above-mentioned names, then he would have to come off the bench...and that might chafe his ass a bit much.

    Flukes? Interesting observation....

Hill...oft injured? Before this injury, Hill had missed a total of 15 games in 5 years in the NBA. That is hardly oft-injured.

Mind you, I am not a Duke fan, but have you heard of Elton Brand? Remember Johnny Dawkins? Laettner was hardly a fluke, and has an all star appearance to boot. Mike Gminski played center in the league for a long time, as did Alaa Abdelnaby. Antonio Lang, Trajan Langdon, William Avery, Corey Maggette, Roshown McLeod, Cherokee Parks, are all playing in the league, some of them with bright futures ahead. Sure, they may not be stars, but Duke puts a lot of players on NBA courts. That is hardly a FLUKE.

Gotta keep Shandon. How would it look if he takes less than market value and we leave him out to dry. I say give him a 20% raise and wait for bird right to give him a nice contract. 4 yrs, 20 mil would be tops.

Don't forget the guy has shut down a few good sg. How can you guys want to get rid of the perfect compliment to steve and a guy that does the dirty work and doesn't complain. This team has scorers, especialy if we get Webber.

how in the hell do you justify paying shandon what cuttino makes?

shandon is, and never will be anything more than an average nba player.

in fact, i see him as a modern day mario elie. that said, those players are important. they serve a very functional role. but, no matter what this "wink, wink" situation was with the rockets, we do not owe him mobley money. that's like paying moochie mobley money, if he took less to be here. it's ridiculous.

if it were up to me, shandon would get around 3MM per over 3-4 years. anything more than that and he can hit the road.

    shandon vs. shane [IMG]

this is comical. shane already has a better nba game than shandon, and he hasn't played a lick of nba ball. if you haven't noticed, his 3 pointers are almost ALL nba range. his defense is incredible. he has the nba body. he's not a ball hog. he's a smart player, too. if we had an inkling of a chance to get him, you do it.

oh yea, on a separate note...tar heels rule. [IMG]

Not that this has much to do with anything, but I would think that Battier would be Rudy's dream come true--a big guy with somewhat of a post game who can shoot the ball from anywhere on the court, especially the perimeter. I don't think he'll be around when we're drafting, but then again, neither was Steve...maybe Vancouver will draft him and we can screw them again... [IMG]

    good point Lil Pun...

The guards on the team cant play that good of a defense and we cant count on Hakeem to be his old self. If Cato got his act together (big IF) we have a shot blocking presence and with Anderson that would be awesome. The old adage, "defense wins championships."
