Actually I'm just really happy that the Rockets have 4 young players that are all showing a lot of potential and are all rotation worthy players on a playoff team. Capela, Dekker, KJ and Harrell. Different skill sets but all worthy of playing time on playoff teams. When is the last time you could say that about a Rockets team?
It's been said before but he's still ONLY 22. I think yes in the short term he needs a compliment but from gauging you're posts you're making it seem like he's done developing his game. Dude is still oozing potential and most definitely has the tools and drive to become a star in this league. The big man is making a slight comeback and I don't see why Clint can't be considered apart of that movement. Again, he is only 22.
I've actually been pretty impressed with Capela's ability to finish beyond layups. His post game is still woefully underdeveloped, but his body control and ability to finish tells me that unlike Dwight who is constantly stiff, Capela has the ability to learn and develop a post game. The fact that he has been this solid despite still being so raw makes me very excited about his future!
If Capela keeps this up and Dekker continues to improve trading them for a likely to bolt star like Cousins makes a lot of sense for both sides.
Although I see this as a possibility (or some variation thereof, maybe with a third team), I would hate to consign either player to the Kings (even as a lifelong Rockets fan wanting to return to the top echelon of teams). Outside of their cheerleaders, ain't nothin' right about the Kings.
Capela is an extension of Harden and MDA, in my opinion. He does fill the role very well though. I think given minutes, Trez would own in the Harden pick and roll, but would not have the same defensive impact as Capela.
Capela likely will continue to improve, but his physical limitations are not going to go away. There are very few real "stars" in the NBA and I don't think Clint will be a star...... and really he doesn't even need to be to help the Rockets.
The same thing happened with DMo. Anybody white with any type of skillset is Same thing happened with DMo here. Anybody white with half a skillset will be overly praised. Thing is Dekker's a legit role player in the NBA, along the lines of a poor man Tom Chambers. He can play. Overhyping him will only set the bar TOO high for his career. He definitely has the tools of a solid NBA career. No way he's a star
I think white guys in the NBA are actually more often underrated than overrated. Take Shane Battier for instance.
I dont think he's going to be a star..i think he's surprising some opponents because he's been a lot more active...I'm starting to see some prime Dalembert in him...he's gotta keep learning because he's made some rookie mistakes, like getting caught up in the game against Det and forcing shots up.
If DeAndre Jordan is considered a star, I think Capela has a good chance of being one if that's the barometer we're setting.
I too thought this was going to be about Dekker. D'Antoni has inflated the trade values of all our players, so don't make the mistake of thinking that they're all of a sudden developing into stars. In the right deal you still give any of the guys up not named Harden. And honestly a lot of big men in the league can put up numbers in this system, finishing pick n rolls and alley oop freebies. No trade comes without some pain.
So will this thread start a trend; Are we just going to ignore Player X as our true second star? Next time Gordon wins a game for us, or Anderson or Dekker or Wilter after breaking NBDL record for 3s in one game, or when Joe gets a quadruple double in the CBA
Capela has surprised me with his play. I hope he can keep it up and continue to improve. He's sure making Morey look good (as is Dekker, who's playing more like the dim memory I have of seeing him in the NCAA playoffs). The early season is turning out to be very intriguing!
That is the keyword. A system where Harden dominates the ball. If we get another star player, how many of those would settle for a lesser role? How many touches will this dominant player get and how is he going to get those touches? How many big men got great numbers based on D'Antoni's system?
How many is irrelevaant. Amar'e Stoudamire and Nash destroyed the league (in your terms of both "got great numbers" and Wins). That should be enough wrt your unfounded worry of the system not allowing another player have a big role. Hell Amare had 26ppg and Marion 20ppg while Nash got MVP. This system is not a single player dominant system. But yes it is PG dominant. How many passes can you do in 7 seconds or less anyhow. The system gets to the "point" right away, so to speak
