how can you hate a coach who has a 0-0 record as your head coach. why dont you just call it the "I am a r****d club" or something to that effect.

Why waste the time and energy to make a hate anybody club? Especially the coach of the team you’re supposedly a fan of. Seems like you would either root for that coach you have, or if you can’t do that go cheer for another team. I can understand fan gripes, pointing out dislikes and criticism, but actually starting a hate club? For a coach who has absolutely zero effect on your life? (your real life outside sports that is)

Personally, I really don’t think JVG will get much more out of this team then Rudy did. I would have expected between 40 and 50 wins from Rudy, that’s about what I expect out of Van Gundy IF the team can adapt to his system quick enough. For the last thirty or so years 40 to 50 wins seems to be the norm for the Rockets regardless of the coach or personnel.

It’s funny, during our last four lottery seasons, which most of us complain about, we really only had two sub par seasons by Rocket standards, ’00 & ’02. And it’s pretty obvious that injury/illness were the cause of those. The two 40+ seasons we had in 00 and 02 were actually pretty good if viewed in a historical context. Here’s what I mean. In the last thirty years the Rockets have had more than 50 wins only five times yet went to the playoffs about 17 times. In fact last year we had more wins than at least four other Rocket playoff teams.

Anyway, despite the fact that I am somewhat ambivalent to the affect of JVG will have on the team, a hate club? Based on the preseason?

calling rudy the worst judge of talent is just wrong, he has had bad pick with griffin and possilby boki (though boki seemed to get better now) but come on look at these low picks and cba/journey players that rudy picked or put on the team that was solid with us or continue to succeed else where: Cat, Cassell, chucky brown, kenny thomas, moochie (not last year but the first 2), Elie, Eddie Johnson, matt bullard, sam mack, othella harringto and etc.

Btw Dickerson got us Francis (indirectly) and we also got cat in the 2nd round of that draft, It wasn't that bad of a draft. We should've roll the dice with Rasheed but we were in the win now mode with the last hurrah w/ pippen. Rasheed just didn't fit what the team was trying to do at that time.

Such blind ignorant Hate!! Judgement without cautious analysis, opinions formed based upon thinking limited, the lack of data and experience. The Season hasn't started, so at least these opinions have the possibility of being changed or confirmed.

JVG might have a huge ego and be a control freak and all the things stated however I think what he's bringing outweighs the negatives right now. We needed someone to bring professionalism, hard work, and urgency back to this franchise. There was just way too much of a relaxed, lazy ass, let stuff slide mentality going around here. He might not get us to a championship level but this change was a necessary step in trying to get there. He seems to be the direct opposite of Rudy in a lot of respects.

The team probably doesn't like JVG because they have to actually work. How many times did Cato show up to camp out of shape? You show up to camp in shape (see Jim Jackson). 42 million, you don't need a 9 to 5. You should be working out everyday, hire you a nutritionist so that you can get as lean as possible. Hit the weights so you can hold up over the season. Rudy had them dribbling out the shot clock how many times? How many times did they come out of a timeout and not be able to run a play? This team needs discipline.........If they can't cut it, then I'm sure the organization will get some players that want to play. Rudy had them playing street ball, I can go over to the Rec for that.

    Agreed. But with a catch.

Rudy's problem wasn't that he couldn't judge talent. It's that he eventually estimated his own ability in that area too highly.

He had some luck finding late-draft gems. So he started to believe that he and CD could pull the rabbit out of the hat everytime. And he started to start drooling over guys that he would once merely have been happy to take a flyer over - and give up 1st rounders for 2nd round players, 2 second rounders for 2nd round players, etc.

Rudy became a victim of his own strength. It's not all that uncommon, really... but imo, was probably the greatest contributor to his downfall. If he gets even 1 useful player (besides Yao, of course) from the post-Thomas drafts... and the Rockets would have made the playoffs last year, and he'd still be coach.

Do I think JVG is a championship caliber coach? Probably not. Was Rudy a championship coach? Probably not. (I can see the replys now. Good thing I don't live in Houston any more or I'd be burned at the stake for that one.) But both should be (and Rudy's proved it) capable of taking a team with top 10 talent to the playoffs and probably deep into them.

But lets be real here. The Rockets are not a playoff caliber team yet. At least not with JVG. He needs hard nosed savy players (exit mooch, mobley, taylor, cato) for his system to work. I wouln't be surprised if our win total remains right around the same as it was last year or maybe we miss that by a few games even. I won't be upset either. And anybody who says that Rudy doesn't coach defense, what about the title years? I remember when Rockets games and Astros games ended with about the same point total (ok its an overstatement). So maybe it is the fact that this group (or some parts of it) aren't as hungry as they need be. The difference between Rudy and JVG (at least it appears to me) is that JVG is an @55hole. And that's a good thing. Rudy came across as a nice guy, who was concerned with people's feelings (why do you think mad max stayed around so long in houston?) JVG doesn't seem to care, " My way or the high-way". Fine by me, and I would also have to give JVG the nod on X's and O's. Rudy was a coach who pretty much required vetran leadership on his team (Hakeem, Thopre, Smith etc.) Which is why i think he was destined to leave the rockets. Hopefully JVG can get these guys "D" someone up and Rebound "LIKE THEY'VE GOT A PAIR". So if the Rockets drop off alot this year then I might be concerned, but if they are within a few games of their finish last year I'm not so worried. If they fall off next year too then you need yourself a new coach. Also as long as he commits to getting rid of those who won't get along, I'm not worried about those who complain (ok so we have to bring in talent too).

Not nearly as many haters as I thought. Some people said things along the lines of I don't like JVG but I don't hate him or I think Rudy was better. So, those people didn't qualify as haters, but perhaps doubters. The regular season had better come quick.

We will pass this on to the Heat management. But please, go easy on Stan- he hasn't even coached a game yet!
