I also love Brewer but I hope D'antoni and Morey think differently and trade/cut him from the rotation as soon as possible.
Today from Watkins: On the season, the Rockets bench is shooting 49 percent from the floor, third best in the league and averaging 33.5 points, 15th in the NBA. The return of Pat Beverley, who missed the first 11 games of the season recovering from knee surgery, allows Eric Gordon to come off the bench and provide more scoring. "Having Pat back solidify that part and guys learning how to play together," coach Mike D'Antoni said. "We've done some things in the rotation and Sam (Dekker) has come on and Corey (Brewer) has played great. It's good right now, we can get a little bit better with the second group I think it's a good spot."
One good game does not neglect the whole **** pile of games this season and last season...the dude shoot 28% career from 3s, he's not going to get better. Trust me on this.
no one's counting on him to nail threes. they just want him to make his layups and play some god daam defense. you know, those things we paid him to do for 7-8m per. but what doe she do instead? run around like a headless chicken and missing as many shots as he daam well pleases, while gambling on every dribble on defense. bof's poppin out of the woodwork last few days. watch them disappear less than 24 hours from now
Just another proof that MDA is an offensive genius. How can anyone argue against that after seeing how he is able to utilize Brewer's talent in that play? BTW that play is called DB-33 in MDA's playbook. And the execution was perfect.
I gotta believe it's like Michael Bradley and Team USA soccer. He does things during practice that we don't see, he does things in games we aren't seeing, and the coaching staff likes him for it. Maybe he changes a dynamic that I just can't pick up on? My only complaint about the guy is his shot, otherwise, on the other end of the court he's down right amazing. So maybe that's enough?
I think that MDA teams thrive on creating a bit of chaos and madness. One thing I've noticed this year is that as soon as our opponent starts to try to match our pace and game style, we go on nice little runs. When the game gets loose and fast, the Rockets turn it into buckets. Brewer is the ultimate chaos sandwich tempting other teams to bite. When we have played highly disciplined teams, that is when we've gone cold this year. Just think of how 4th quarters (when teams tend to play with more focus) have consistently given us trouble.
Nice explanation, very creative, and I really like it, but Codman just posted and promised us Corey will be traded soon. So he's probably just being 'showcased'. Ryan Anderson makes $18.74 million
I can only pray he'll be traded. This is the time to allow KJ to develop and gain confidence with the squad instead of allowing Brewer to play
I wanna see more Dekker. He can attack the rim and finish with his length, his shooting will get better with more minutes. Less Brewer needed. Hope to see KJ back on defense too in short spurts.
Brewer hasn't been playing bad this season, he's actually done decent and about where you expect a bench player to be. He's probably gets PT because Brewer is a team player who does what the coaches want him to do, if they tell Brewer to run through a brick wall he's gonna do it, you can't really say the same for all of the other players in the squad. Sure he can fumble here and there, but you get consistent effort from him and I think coaches value consistency, when they put Brewer in the game they know he's gonna try his best no matter what the outcome is. Given the new state of the NBA his 7M salary is cheap for a vet bench player, I'd keep around esp. if you can get that price lower to about 5M when its time to resign him.
JB was right. There are some plays that only Brewer can make... Full court sprint chase down block of CJ layup Not know how to dribble on a fast break and turn the ball over Miss a break away dunk Gamble on steals and miss most of the time to give opponents a 5v4 Foul unneccesarily on a post or help defense situation Nah, you right. He is still a net negative. Its just that he has been so bad that when he makes a decent play, they seem better. He still needs to get traded asap.
