He has Ibaka or DJ potential. Coming form similar draft positions, it's an obvious comparison to make. I hope we develop him. If he breaks out sooner or later, I can't see Morey re-signing Dwight.
It's too early to say anything about re-signing Dwight, too many unknowns presently. Way too early to hope to contend with Capella primarily in the middle, but very excited to see him produce.
People are underestimating dwights game. He's still a top 12 player in the league easy. Imo he's the best center in the game and it's not even close. I dont care for cousins scoring when he can't seem to make his team win and that is the objective. Dwight plays winning basketball and can still get u 17-18 ppg on a nightly basis with elite defense and rebounding.
One thing that really impressed me about Capela was his perimeter D. He kept up real well when he was put in that position.
Dwight can't even play on a nightly basis. I agree with everything you said if you add the caveat of "when healthy", but that's the thing; we can't count on his health at all. *edit: That said, it's still absolutely crazy to talk about Capela as Dwight's replacement at this juncture. He has to show SO MUCH more before that should even be entertained.
Dwight plays every game in the playoffs. That's what we really care about. It would be nice if he could play a normal regular season schedule. But I can live with him missing 20 games since beastly Dwight comes to play during the playoffs.
One of the biggest points of emphasis to watch over the course of the season will be whether or not Capela can carry the 5 spot throughout the regular season for large stretches when Dwight is out. Having three years on the rookie scale with a 5 that can carry the position through the regular season, and give Dwight the time off his body needs will be key to winning a title much like Deke with Yao. Dwight is still "our guy" as he should be. He's still the best 5 in the league when healthy. But he desperately needs somebody like Capela to carry the team during the regular season for lengthy stretches. Dwight CANNOT carry the team for 82 games as a starter AND give you 100% come playoff time. ........... Capela's emergence or lack thereof will also either comfort or concern the franchise about Dwight's free agency next Summer. If Capela emerges, it makes the Dwight decision much less urgent. If Dwight leaves, it frees up a world of possibilities with free agency $ to maybe even make the team better. If he stays its on the Rockets terms, and you still have 2 more seasons with Capela as a cheap backup. If Capela doesn't show to be a worthy starting 5 for the regular season, then it impacts roster moves quite a bit, and makes Moreys' job harder to go out looking for another 5 to acquire... which will be costly. Just look at how much Kostas Koufas got this Summer. Morey will have to go out and get someone like that if they want to seriously compete. That's how important Capela's development this year is for this team.
Too bad he isn't a couple inches taller. He's so good for his size, but I would love to see someone even taller in there beside him to make it hard for anyone to get a shot in there. Our team looked so small next to Utah, but hey, we won!
That actually might not be as impossible as it once seemed. He has shown some progress, but not consistently yet. He has a long way to go, but looked really good the other night, which is a positive sign.
Yes, he is full of energy, and I love it. What a change from last year. Dwight was so slow getting from one end of the court to the other.
Capela was destined to be a great player for the Rockets once basketballholic deemed him a must-trade
please Clint, make them get someone to lower your shoulders. they do this to everyone when they bulk up. keep your arm mobility. insist on it. saves your back (see dmo)
