RPM ratings came out and harden is 2nd. Way to go harden. https://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/sort/RPM
Great Season for James. Last years I was always wishing for him to score a little bit less and pass it more. This one? I´m hoping he can up it up a little so he can get 30 pts and +10 assts. Holy All time season!
Real plus minus. This site explains it pretty well: http://www.nbastuffer.com/component.../catid,42/func,view/term,Adjusted Plus-Minus/
What I notice is that both Curry and Westbrook have worse DRPM than Harden. How come I never hear anyone talk about Curry and Westbrook's bad defense? RK NAME TEAM GP MPG ORPM DRPM RPM WINS 2 James Harden, SG HOU 12 36.8 7.86 -0.58 7.28 2.76 6 Stephen Curry, PG GS 12 33.3 7.41 -1.85 5.56 2.20 7 Russell Westbrook, PG OKC 13 34.4 6.22 -0.94 5.28 2.30
So do Lillard, Irving, and DeRozan. All at least as bad as Harden on defense (probably worse), and yet we never hear about their bad D.
NAME TEAM GP MPG ORPM DRPM RPM Damian Lillard POR 14 35.9 5.60 -2.28 3.32 The reason Portland is struggling is because of their non-existent defense (worst in the league), and Lillard is the main culprit. The guy is an absolute turnstile, makes Harden look like an all-nba defensive player, and yet if you ask a regular fan, I guarantee you they'll say Harden is more of a defensive liability than Lillard is, but when you look at the numbers Harden's worst defensive season is still better than Lillard's best defensive season.
He remodeled his game after the knee surgeries. His style of play is very sustainable now and that Clippers bench has been improved compared to years past.
The answer is simple. These other players (Westbrook, Curry, Lillard) haven't had viral videos made of them being terrible on defense. You want people to start talking about how terrible their defense is? Show them. Make a video and post it. If Lillard's defense really is that bad (I haven't seen because I don't watch him), it shouldn't be difficult finding the same kinds of shots of him standing around being a turnstile that was found for Harden.
Congratulations!!...and all that...but one doesn't have to be an expert to realise that at least in this point in the season this stat is ,,not reliable. Let's give some nice examples: Avery Bradley who is one of the best defensive sgs -1.83 DRPM . Much worse than Eric Gordon's , Bojan Bogdanovic and Harden's. Dekker has better DRPM than Paul George. Marcus Morris has better ORPM than Paul Milsap LMAO Christiano Felicio is better in offence than Favors? Greg Monroe, Vucevic, Tarik Black and Speights have better DRPM than Towns. The list goes on and on.
yes, the individual DRPM numbers are influenced by the level of overall team defense- that's why Curry's past DRPM was somewhat good despite being known as a poor defender - however, this doesn't necessarily apply to Harden since Houston is far from an elite defensive team, so there is no reason to suppose his DRPM is inflated. As I mentioned numerous times in the past, defense is mostly about team effort and coordination and individual players have much less impact on that end of the floor than they do on offense. So, even players like Avery Bradley will have atrocious defensive numbers if his team is playing poor defense - which is exactly the case.
The perception of Harden being the worst defensive player came because, as we all know, he can have costly lapses of attention that make him look stupid. When Harden is dialled in, he's actually pretty good on d. Lillard on the other hand, doesn't really have those lapses, but he is just useless at staying in front of people and even worse on the switch game. But casual fans don't really see that, they think he is making more effort than Harden, therefore he is better on D.
Boston and Houston have the same Def EFF according to espn. http://www.espn.com/nba/hollinger/teamstats/_/sort/defensiveEff/order/true Therefore by this stat the conclusion is that Harden is a much better defender than Bradley who was first team all defence last year. Makes sense...not.
Boston's defense has been getting worked over with Horford and Crowder out. That is the main problem with DRPM is that is can't wholly take out the other players impact. There's also something to be said for offense effecting defense especially in terms of any +/- metric.
http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/sort/RPM RPM ranking newly updated Harden still 2nd while heads and shoulders above everyone else in ORPM. Reminds me of last year's Curry.
