I agree, and so far we are doing that. I just hope that our long game becomes more of a threat against teams when and if 3 yard dinks and dunks aren't cutting it. I liked what I saw with the running game last week, and the combo of backs have. Hunt was impressive last week. If we can move the ball on the ground against Oakland and put the pressure on Carr it will be great!
What's new? Fire Rick for not fixing this year after year. It's ridiculous. I understand it's not all Brock, but you and I both know he has a long way to go right now.
True, he does have a long way to go, I just end up having to say those things because unfortunately not everyone understands that it's not all Brock. You have a lot of fans that don't know enough football to understand WHY certain things happen and where blame should really go for any given play going wrong. No matter what, Brock will be on the roster next season, hopefully he'll have a better line and will be more comfortable in the pocket. At that point, we'll know if he's about to get cut, or if the Texans have something decent in him.
Open up the playbook? we opened that book or pamphlet on week 2. But I'm down with any creativity this coaching staff can apply to the game. Just not very confident.
It isn't Rick Smith's fault that we've lost 4 of 5 linemen to injury. Our offensive line planned starters were quite solid - and maybe even close to a top 5. I'm far from a Rick Smith fan, but the injuries this team has faced this year are quite significant - and many at extremely crucial positions.
I'll ask the same thing I've been asking asking Texans fans for years - without ever receiving an answer that makes sense. Where are we going to get a franchise QB? They don't grow on trees. Derek Carr is LITERALLY the only "sure thing" draft pick that has panned out in since Andrew Luck (who isn't currently worth his $25 million a year). Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Tannehill, Joe Flacco, Eli Manning and Andrew Luck all make as much as Osweiler or more (much more) and are far from playing up to their paid potential. Literally other QB between when Luck was drafted, and Carr was drafted isn't "worth" the money they are getting paid - it is all paid for potential. Kaepernick is making $15.6 million, and Fitzgerald is making $12 million this season for Pete's sake! http://overthecap.com/position/quarterback/ Short of a Peyton Manning coming off of neck surgery, when was the last time a franchise QB hit the free agent market? It just doesn't happen. An over the hill Farve is the last one I can remember. QBs don't grow on trees, and hitting on a franchise QB in the draft is a crapshoot, from the #1 overall, all the way to Mr. Irrelevant. It is simply the hardest position in all of professional sports, which also makes it the hardest ever to evaluate. So yes. Taking a flier on Osweiler with only two seasons of risk was a smart move - regardless of what anyone thinks. Fitzpatrick would have been our likely QB had we not made the move. Think about that.
Bad chemistry with just Hopkins has made Brock bad to every other pass catcher too? When no other previous terrible Texan QB had that problem? Ultimately, what DOES Brock do WELL, or even average, in the passing game? No one or myself can answer that. The only thing Brock's improved on of late is NOT forcing it to Hopkins and involving tight ends more, so instead of terrible results its bad results with no INTS. That said, its at least not a regression and still time. But Brock has been so bad that really he's had nowhere to go but up. I'm for occassional trickery, though I'm not sure how much opening the full playbook will help if Brock isn't even passing the first chapter.
Amen. Even Carr was probably never even a possibility. It's up to each of us to decide who to blame for that.
That's the thing though, he hasn't had those issues with other receivers. Hell he's actually really good when targeting his tight ends. For the most part, the issues between him and Nuk have been on timing routes and I haven't seen the other receivers get those kinds of calls. It appears as if Nuk isn't capable of it either so if they just cut that out of the play book entirely, I think they'd be better off.
I think Fuller just plays into Brock's strengths better, which is why he had such great games early in the season. He'll get better with Nuk, and I've seen clear improvement since the start of the season between them. Losing Fuller and Strong to injury is a huge reason Brock has struggled. We need their speed to stretch the field - and without either one of them, it is easy to isolate Nuk.
