George Clooney was already looking at running for higher office some day. Colbert ran a semi-campaign in 2008.

This is the world we live in. Reality TV stars and social media celebrities hold vast amounts power and exposure - democratization of the lowest common denominator. Will this be the new norm?

The office is open to anyone that is charismatic. Celebrities tend to be charismatic.

No more than the Governator (and Jessie Ventura) opened the door to celebrity governors.

I literally ****ing hope not. Sorry, I'm not even comfortable with this as a hypothetical; it's a little too revealing of our insulation and lack of priorities. ALL OF THE DAMS HAVE FAILED.

No. Sure, Trump's celebrity gave him a platform, as did Clinton's. But, you do still need to have some political shrewdness to navigate the landscape. I think Trump is a fool in many ways, but he's not dumb and he's had great political instincts. We'll get celebrities sometimes because there will be the occasional celebrity who is actually cut out for politics. But the floodgates are no more open than before. I suspect we might see some copycats who think they can do what Trump did, but they'll flame out.

Yes, he was. his major strength was drawing crowds at rallies and to caucus. Clinton beat him in total vote count in 2008. He ran a twitter campaign.

If you aren't convinced, he certainly was a celebrity in 2012, thus a celebrity won the last election.

......and if still not convinced you already granted me he is a celebrity so people have come to accept that the position of president is filled by a celebrity. Clinton is a politician and public servant, not a celebrity. Obama does interviews with GloZell and slow jams the news. Obama made the change to our perception that our president is a celebrity.
