According to bobbythegreat, these people should just stop being whiny and grow thicker skin.

    Well 2 things.

    1. Yes people should stop being whiny and grow thicker skin. That's just a universally true statement.

    2. It's absolutely unfortunate when Muslims are targeted. According to the numbers we have available, it happens about 150 times per year on average in the US and every one of those incidents is inexcusable and tragic. Of course, for context, approximately twice as many people get injured by lightning every year in the US.....so it's incredibly infrequent and is nowhere near a top concern.

Yes I saw that too. Shameful and pathetic.

However, the stories above have multiple witnesses and were not fabricated.

The police are the ones who made the "deliberately targeted" comment.

Cases like these should be looked at on an individual basis.

The faked stories are so enraging because there is really awful **** happening to people across the country. And many, perhaps most, Americans don't want to believe it is real. So a single false report pretty much gives free license to dismiss all the other true instances. Thankfully, a number of people are recording what is happening with their phones and, in some instances, the people doing the deed are recording it themselves.

The SPLC is cataloging and investigating. So if anyone sees or experiences anything please notify authorities and then report to the SPLC(https://www.splcenter.org/reporthate).

It is kinda horrifying, the behavior of people now empowered to hate in the open. Since election night, reports just seem to be streaming in left and right. Against jews, muslims, latinos, blacks, even women are reporting forms of random grabbing. It looks like the Twitter harassment has gone from virtual to real world, now. I'd like to think it is just kids trolling. But when you are the target, you can't take chances. Whether it is nazi symbology, slurs, hijab snatching, threats, or kids walking down the school hall with Trump-Pence banners shouting "white power", it is all unerving. People just need to be sure to report.

I agree. It is a shame to the people actually getting targeted because believe me, I do know there are some stupid, ignorant people out there committing act against others. However, a lot of these "stories" that are just simply posted on twitter seem fabricated and it makes it hard to know whats true and who is just trying to gain sympathy while bashing white people.

Any story that you hear about is anecdotal until there is evidence. That is why people need to record and report. And, just going off the reported and recorded instances, it is frightening. Those particular "stories" are factual and backed up by evidence.

People have always questioned if the racism African Americans say they have experienced is real. For decades, even under Jim Crow, those who don't have to live it question it. It wasn't until Rodney King that the public at large would even acknowledge police brutality. And even with the recording of contemporary events, things are summarily dismissed for... reasons. History is replete with cases of things getting real bad for segments of the population, and most of the population never knowing or dismissing the rumors and reports as false.

And we know very particular hate groups -- that have it in for jews, muslims, blacks, non-heterosexuals, any non-WASP -- are literally celebrating Trump and their new found freedom to be out form the shadows. How do we know? Their public proclamations, parades, and the work of journalists covering the story.

So again, I just ask people to encourage others to make official reports. Both to local authorities and the SPLC.

Twitter and Facebook stories (without video) are about as credible as chain emails. I can't believe a random tweet from one woman saying her mom told her not to wear her Hijab actually made that story in the OP.

Then don't believe twitter. Go off what comes out of SPLC and investigative journalistic reports. Hold judgement if you need to. Let people who investigate these things investigate the recorded incidents. But when the investigations are completed. Please opt to believe, then.
