And with no tax returns, we cannot verify if the rumors/concerns about Trump's financial ties to Russia are true. It is ironic that the party of Reagan, elected a person he seemed so compromised with respect to Russia. The more we learn about Trump, the more this whole thing seems like the prologue to a dystopian novel.

It looks like a pretty transparent attempt by Ryabkov to stoke infighting by announcing this. The evidence was already out there when we voted and we somehow elected him anyway, so I guess we don't care. I'd rather not do the predictable things that Russia obviously wants us to do, getting into a big post-electoral fight about the legitimacy of our president. He might be a terrible person but he's the president, the end.

 

I didn't see anything in the article about discussions with Russia being about the sanctions or any other dispute.

 

This is Russia continuing to damage the credibility of American institutions. Unfortunately, Trump had his make-out session with Russia already; Russia will use it to hurt him (as American leader) for the next 4 years.

 

Exactly. Russia's entire goal in interfering with the election was to delegitimize both democracy and our institutions. That mission was already partially accomplished given that much of this was already known (the possible agents in the campaign, the contacts, the likely hood of Trump finances being tied to Russia) and many voters decided it didn't matter.

Smart move by the Kremlin to stoke the flames. We will have many more years of this.
