The working class whites in Michigan and Wisconsin who usually voted Democrats were abandoned and have been for a while by the Democrat party. Do you think in 2020 there will be a better strategy to persuade this group which is a large and significant population to vote Dem or should they just focus on the minority votes with demographic shift?

Working class Americans*. But if Trump's economic policies pan out, they'll all go Right and we'll all be better for it anyway.

I hope for a future where diversity of ideas trump two party tradition.

A lot of pissed off minorities. No way they can do that else they're betraying their base.

The Democratic Party will definitely have to start emphasizing class, which will piss of the Wall Street/Silicon Valley elitists who have dominated it with their campaign contributions. The Democratic Party can not only be the party of educated and minorities

Class issues are what can unite both whites and minorities who do have many of the same needs -- good income, health care, education etc. These are not major concerns of the elites who are content and who will not want to start sharing the pie.

The time is now as the poor white working class has now for the most abandoned the distraction of social issues of abortion, sexual orientation and many Evangelical concerns or they wouldn't have voted for The Donald who obviously is not exactly a conservative family man with strict sexual morals who engages in much Bible reading :)

Nah, just wait four years for the country to be a mess and they will all vote for a Dem.

These Rust Belt 'working class white' folks are in this naive alt-reality bubble where they think magically 60's era manufacturing jobs can spring up by having Donald Trump yell at 'Gina'.

Here's how you bring back 60's era manufacturing numbers:
    1. Slow down the progress in automation technology(as a soon to be MechE, good luck with that).
    2. Reduce the minimum to $2 dollars/hr to compete with China's labor.

Member berrys man... South Park couldn't be more right.

I think they know none of that is going to happen, they just want someone who represents them in power for a chance.

But mainly the election was decided by Dems that didn't vote more than anything else.
