If Herman does leave though, a top tier coach is likely to be available that just got fired, so think Orlando would have some competition. I can't honestly say that I know for sure just yet that Herman's system ( under Orlando's control ) is the one we want, as he's still running on someone else's recruits, but it's a good option to have given his success rate.
Lincoln Riley would be an excellent hire IMO. Young and proven as an OC. Cumbie was UT's first choice as OC but some were concerned since Meachem calls the plays.
Honestly wouldn't mind Major. He has worked under Saban, Mack and now Herman. He is a terrible playcaller but maybe he can be a great coach. Also like Kendal Briles mainly because he is a UH alum so there's a chance he stays lol.
Exactly, we are constantly having coaches achieve success here and then take a job within Texas. We lose not just our coach but they begin to use those connections developed while coaching Houston to recruit to their new school. Until we can get our P5 invite, this will keep happening and be annoying. It's going to have to take one of these conferences to stand up to ESPN as all it took was $10 million from us joining the Big 12. Looking forward to having our own Gary Patterson or Kyle Whittingham who propels the program and isn't afraid to say no to other schools.
We need to find that guy who just loves this school and wants to make it a great program. That's why I think we should try to hire an alum. We maybe need to think outside the box. Remember this guy, he's currently Carolina's special teams coach - http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york-j...teams-coach-wants-to-pursue-job-at-alma-mater . Kendal Briles also interests me though he may be too young/inexperienced. Another guy I think we should look at is Chad O'Shea, Patriots receivers coach and son of Mike O'Shea who was our athletic trainer for 22 years before retiring this past offseason.
99% follow the money trail, some want fame too. If we pay, there's a chance a coach will stay. We can't offer or guarantee fame, but it seems like we should have the pocket book considering the players are basically free.
Thank you. Two years ago we were a mediocre team and simply making a bowl game was a successful season. To expect to go from that to perfection in two years was unrealistic.
So here's a crazy scenario If navy starts losing and e Carolina and Tulsa beats them. We win out and make AAC and win. Would the Louisville win be enough to rank us highest G5 school for NY6 bowl? Assuming Oklahoma also wins the big 12
It really sucks to know If we win out and somehow win the conference, then yes, we will undoubtedly be the G5 rep in the NY6.
I think beating Louisville changes a lot of things on its own. If we win the conference championship and are the highest ranked G5 team then we are guaranteed a NY6 bowl. Boise St lost last night so that shakes things up a bit. Beating Louisville at a packed stadium will be a statement. It's sort of like a NY6 game during the season. In a way, it will show that the team put their mistakes behind them and are the same team that was able to control Oklahoma.
For those curious, for us to make the CCG, the following needs to happen: We win out, Navy loses 2 more conference games, SMU loses 1 more conference game and Tulsa loses 1 more conference game. Navy has: vs Tulsa, @ ECU, and @SMU SMU has: vs Memphis, @ECU, vs USF, vs Navy Tulsa has: vs ECU, @Navy, @UCF, vs Cinci
Tulsa only has one conference loss (to UH)... we have two. In a 3 way tie, you go by CFP rating which likely would go to UH from strength of schedule.
Also, I wonder what happens if Tulsa beats Navy, then Tulsa loses, and we end up in a three way tie for the division, who wins that tiebreaker?
So much promise this year...Was able to go the OU and UCONN games...After the Big12 ccktease, I do think Herman is looking for the bigger better deal...such is life, but now the focus is to win out...#GOCOOGS
