Correct me if I am wrong - but didn't Trump say all and any American muslim who is already in the country legally is 100% fine? I also believe he said that muslim immigration would be banned until ISIS was dealt with and a more efficient vetting process was formulated. In his words "what we are doing isn't working, we have to get it under control." Please please please excuse my ignorance if it's prevalent - why is this so such a horrible thing? (the policy itself - not the reaction of rally goers). I am not muslim myself but have several muslim friends, so don't tell me I am bigoted or whatever, genuinely posing the question.

Really good post here. He's said as much behind close doors that he wouldn't deport anyone and I'd be the first to oppose such a ban but protecting the border is extremely important for many reasons. The Muslim ban was for those in terror countries that threaten the US. He wants to ban until he can assure the vetting process has improved. He is trying to protect you, me and your family.
