Seems like Boki just got his feet set when Wallace's second foot just left the ground... Both happened almost at the same time, really a tough call! Anyway, I'd still call it a block...
It wasnt called because Wallace made the dunk. If he had missed the dunk then more than likely the ref would've called the foul. I've seen it time and time again. My favorite one was when Al Harrington tried to take a charge from Shawn Marion a few years ago and got POSTERIZED. Marion just jumped right over him.
After watching that replay several times, I have to say it was sweet sweet dunk but it could've as easily been a charging as a block. Boki played good defense on that play, it's just that Gerald Wallace took off way to far from the basket. It was a 50/50 call and if he had missed, it would've been a charge. Boki imo played good defense. But I would've also like to see a hard foul just to send a message I don't mind the way Boki played on that play. P.S. Houkom, I hope you are blaming other player's play poor D on a fast break. It's a freaking fast break what I did like was the other three players ran hard until the play finished.
Blocking was the correct call. Boki was moving the entire time. He turned his body to avoid getting a face full of Wallace's A**! Should have gone up and punished him for trying to disrespect him that way though, even if they called a flagrant on him. Wallace shouuld have been called for taunting for the way he stood over Boki at the end but I guess the refs were still in awe.
You would then loose the benefit of a possible charge. I really think Boki just played it right. ANd James is very probably right: had the dunk been missed, Gerald would have walked away with a foul.
And yes, I am blaming the other players: they may have run till the finish, they were still to late to come back for a man to man or at least three on two fb. Unless they are so confident of Boki`s defensive abilities, they always leave him with three attackers :-0 BTW, I do think Boki is slow on lateral movements for defense, but his defensive decisions and positions are mostly right.
It looked like he was set but perhaps he wasn't 100 percent square with Wallace. IMO, If Boki is set outside the dotted line it's going to be a charge regardless if Wallace had jumped already. Anyway, it was still a Nasty Dunk
Man, that was a vicious dunk...but it sure did look like Charging. Boki looked like he wa just outside the line on that clip. And he did set up for the charge. either way...ouch.
Man, poor Boki! That's the first time he's been seen on national TV, and that's the exposure he gets? But Steve's reaction is great!
Turning your head doesn't mean you aren't set. It's about establishing position on a spot from the floor. Basically a spot square with the defensive players shoulder & directly down to the floor. Leaning off that spot is not being set, not turning your head within that spot. Also you could be hit at an angle & the call could still be charging. You either have position or you don't. Angle doesn't matter.
That's gotta be the funniest thing I've EVER seen in basketball. We all learn new things everyday, so did Nachbar, he found out that black man can jump ! hahaha ..oh steve's reaction was priceless ! hahaha..I conclude that Nachbear should join the WNBA! He looked like he's been bulldozed or run over by a car hahahhaha! nachbar proved me wrong ..he actually is good for something gettin hit n run! I thought these things only happen in streetball ...man that was sicker than when vince dunked over this 7 footer in the olympics
Hey, i thought this was a Rockets forum? why should we care about a simple dunk done by some guy named Gerald Wallace? i saw the highlights. take a look at the clips at www.Yao-Ming.tv . There's one highlight where Boki does a sweet fingerroll from the freethrow line. TAKE THAT GERALD WALLACE!!!
Please tell me you're being sarcastic. And danielk, the dunk was impressive, but you can't put it on the same level as Carter's sky over the 7 footer.
