If Trez had the temperament of a normal human I would be all for signing DMo. But Trez's anger and energy make him such an enigma in today's NBA. Forget DMo..

Has any player actually significantly upped their free agency value playing overseas? Beating up competition in the Lithuanian league won't earn DMo a max contract. And no team is going overseas is going to pay him $7.1 million next year.

And what? What it matters how closer it is? Guy has been living in Texas for years now and speaks the language has a house a gf and what not. Any person would rather stay than move to a foreign country he knows noone and doesn't speak the language even if it's 8 hours closer by plane. You still have to take a 3(?) hours flight to go to your country anyway.
    The Lithuanian league isn't good.
I'm talking about the cap taking into account the extensions.

What is the link to this. Seems wrong on two counts.

NOTE: This date appears to be wrong, according to Coon. Plus, they even have a typo for "two months" vs "three months"

The Trade Deadline is Feb 16th (17th Thursday after the season begins). Coon confirmed the Trade Deadline here http://www.basketballinsiders.com/chat/nba-chat-with-larry-coon-1132016/

Thus, Nov 16th (or maybe 17th for 90-day periods) would be three months prior.

No one is talking about a max contract. Right now they are trying to lock him down for less than the MLE next year. He could spend a year at home showing he's healthy and get a much larger contract next season. 10 mil a year would be the floor and that's nowhere near a max deal.

Maybe he should have taken the $4.4 million, but that leverage is gone. He (or BJ) needs to face facts and take the $8 million and give the Rockets the nonguaranteed year. Maybe see if Morey will pay $9 or $10 million guaranteed this year, but it looks like the Rockets will never guarantee the second year. They called his bluff and DMo needs a dose of reality. This is the leverage given the Rockets by the CBA, it is what it is.

Oh ok, so if they sign D.Mo at a 7 starting salary, they have virtually no cap space next summer, is that right?

Yeah and next year being a RFA is much easier and better.
Even if the market for bigs is oversaturated. Also his caphold will rise by 50% which isn't good for us.

He doesn't have a house here, he has an apartment walking distance from the Toyota Center, they've talked about it several times. The Lithuanian league being good is irrelevant, he'd get close to the same money he makes now, and as one of the biggest basketball celebrities of that country he'd be supplemented with local endorsements.....and it would likely be for just a year.

Right now his value is artificially decreased by the health concerns that wouldn't be there if he played a full season in ANY league. He'd get to go home for a year before signing a deal where 10 mil would be the floor. That's pretty much win/win.

The two good lithuanian teams last time I checked don't even pay close to the same money he makes now. Also no offence to the lithuanian posters here it's full of hooligans. Endorsements? I doubt it. I didn't see Jasikevicius make any more from endorsements and he's much bigger celebrity than DMO.
If he leaves he should go to a good Euroleague team.

I would love to have him off the bench but if he doesn't take that offer then screw him. I'd rather let trez see what type of player he can turn into. Love his energy and boarding. I'd think he'd turn out to be a good bench player

You cant count on Trez against the Spurs, Warriors, Jazz, Clippers... and the goal is to compete against those teams, not the NY Knicks. Motiejunas would undoubtedly improve this team. You forget feelings and embrace him if he decides to sign.

IMHO, I think DMO wants out - I don't think he trusts the org or wants to be here, now that might change once he signs, but from my perspective he wants out.

Let's hope he signs gets in here, is super productive and changes his mind.

The medical concerns are about his long-term health. He already played last year, nearly half a season. Playing in the Lithuanian league for one year won't mean much in terms of proving he's healthy and upping his value. Plus, there's the chance that he actually injures himself again while playing for peanuts.

Why do you think he doesn't trust the org or want to be here? Sure they did try to trade him, but he showed no signs of being unhappy. He seems like a smart guy so I'd think he understands it's just part of the business.

I do think he will sign here. I also want him to.

I assume he knows that he will have good numbers here. And that he coach will be here at least 2 years. After that he will cash in on a big contract if he can stay healthy. He knows he will probably also be a starter when Anderson inevitably gets hurt for a portion of the season. He could potentially even win the starting job, which would result in a higher contract.

Unfortunately for him he does not have leverage. And signing in Houston, and putting up big stats at least on a per minute basis is the best he is going to do. So he can cry himself to sleep every night only making $7 million dollars.
