Of course, if you get spoiled and ask for us to make the best offer to Webber as well, all those scenarios fall apart.

I agree on wishing for Cato to be gone. What a joke he is/has been! I listen to the 610 morning sports show and they are constantly taking jabs at him. [IMG]

My dream scenario would be to do a trade with Chicago consisting of Walt/Cato for Brand/Miller/?. Forget Webber,Brand would be cheaper & more than adequate for our needs. That would leave us with the Dream windfall to resign Dream/MO/Shandon/Moochie/FA?.

Rocketman95, we'll need to borrow your gun for this one though. [IMG]

Sadly I think Mo, Dream, and Shandon will all leave, and Webber will re-up with the Kings. It could be a nightmare summer, or a dream- with Mo, Shandon, Hakeem and Mo all signing. I am really worried about it.

Agreed. I think it's going to be all or nothing in terms of acquisitions and dispositions this summer..

If the Rockets try as hard as possible to get rid of Cato on draft night (hell, I'd settle for Walt and Los), then everything should be fine.

They'll have the Milwaulkee pick to package, and more than likely the Orlando pick to package as well.

Mil pick + Cato for Brad Miller + 2nd rounder anyone?

Orl pick (probably lower than the Mil pick b/c it'll come from Dallas, Phoenix or Sac?? or Orlando) + Walt Williams for Brad Miller and a future first anyone?

Antonio Davis has a player option. Cato + 2 picks sounds good to me, even though the guy is 32 (the 2 will be in the low to mid 20s but you're getting rid of... well, Kelvin Cato).

I don't understand why everybody keeps including Shandon in these conversations. The only way he is a free agent this summer is IF he opts out of his current contract. I'm sure they've implied to Shandon that if he doesn't opt out, they will reward him the next year. I just don't think Shandon will opt out. I am fine with Shandon at the 3. It's more of a positive than a negative with him at that spot. I do agree that Shandon has had to sacrifice his offense here, but it really could just be him going away from his strengths. We've all seen Francis and Shandon going to the hole more frequently of late, and the results speak for themselves.

When we make the playoffs and give Vancouver our pick, and Vancouver gives it to Detroit, will Detroit give it right back to us?

That would work for me. Then, we'd have our pick, Milwaukee's pick, possibly Orlando's pick, & the Drew obligation from Chicago. Following Achebe's lead, if we combine those picks along with Cato, maybe we can pry Miller & Chicago's #1 pick away from them. We void Miller's contract & resign him for something a little more in line with his abilities. That'd give us a lot more cap space to work with.

If there were anyway that we could get Brand in the deal without giving up Francis/Cat/Shandon/MO/Dream/Moochie.....okay, I'm awake now. I must have fallen asleep. [IMG]

In any event, with all those picks, we should be able to pull some kind of deal together.

I'd like to go along on this fantasy but Krause has proved time and time again that he is a dips**t who places far too much importance on his high draft picks. I know Marcus Fizer has played well recently and must have drawn attention before the trade deadline. Jerry Reinsdorf, the boss, is reputedly pretty damned cheap, Jordan notwithstanding. The Chicago papers seem to think Krause is after a center (Yao, Curry) in this draft. So I don't know if we can give them Cato.

But that would suit me fine if the Bulls took him off our hands.

two great oeilpere comments in two threads on one Friday. I love Fridays.

    more....more....

    1. There is no money above the league ave salary for Mo unless we use the Dream windfall,

    2. If we use the Dream windfall, Dream can only sign for the minimum (or whatever capspace is left after renouncing him and signing Mo' and then re-signed Hakeem as a free agent, which is a scenario that has never happened in the league, to my knowledge...that would be a psychodelic freak out dream scenario)

    3. Does Shandon want more than Cuttino's pay? If so, again the Dream windfall must be cashed.

    4. If Shandon and Mo' are willing to accept league average pay (Cuttino's pay), then you get your Dream, because Dream can sign up to the maximum price.

I HOPE Walt and Bullard are outta here...

As for the Free Agents, this is what will happen:

Shandon: early bird, same contract as Cuttino, OR, play out his contract and go for bigger bucks..

Hakeem: Will either retire or sign with a contender, no way he's still with us..

Mo or Webber: It's jts that, If we don't get Webber, it's Mo, If we DO get Webber, no way will Mo stay with us, he'll want real MINUTES....

I hope Cato doesn't get traded, we won't have anyone else in that position....

Here's how I hope our roster will look like:

    Cato/Collier/Draft pick (C/PF REBOUNDER)
    Webber/KT/Draft Pick(SF/PF DEFENSE)
Shandon/Langhi/same draft pick as PF position
    Cuttino/Norris/Francis (In that order)
    Francis/Norris/Cuttino (In that order)

Actually, I think Hakeem might stay. If Miami grabs Ewing, that is. And Phoenix? Possibility, but I hope not.

Hakeem had a gigantic change of heart about the Rockets. I don't know what they told him or if he wants mo money, mo money, mo money next year as a free agent. WHEN we sign Webber, Hakeem might just say, "Hmmmmn; Houston; yes, it all makes sense now." Especially if we grab Webber in a sign-and-trade.

I hope Bullard is back, he is a very good role player. I think Walt is gone, he adds no real value. Cato is gone if anyone will take him.

Sane, how do you post this and then follow up w/ a possibility of Webber? If the Rockets aren't competitive enough for friggin' Dream to stay, Webber's certainly not going to come.

I would understand if you asserted that Dream would probably only stay if the Rockets got Webber, but what you've written doesn't seem plausible.

I'm not so quick to give up Cato like many on here. If you get rid of Kelvin, and Dream somehow resigns here for only one year, who are you left with after that? The only other center would be Jason Collier. I'm not too thrilled about this possibility. I'd rather keep Kelvin's underachieving, untapped potential ass than take the risk of having Collier as the starting Center 2 years from now. I understand it clears cap room, and that IF Webber came here some think he could play center(which I know he would not be thrilled about). Also, this upcoming draft class will have to prove to me it's worth all the hype it's recieving, and don't think the Rockets will be able to find a gem of a center in the draft.
