Here's the story No hard feelings Rockets' Francis looking forward to Vancouver visit Rockets guard Steve Francis isn't gloating over the apparent demise of Vancouver's pro basketball fortunes. "I'm not the type of person to say, ha ha, that's what you get," says Francis, who became Public Enemy No. 1 in Vancouver when he refused to play for the Grizzlies. "I'm not even like that. I just think it was something [I had to do]. I'm not saying I'm psychic or anything, but I kind of figured the best situation for [me] would be somewhere else, not Vancouver." Francis was selected by the Grizzlies with the second overall pick of the '99 draft, but he ultimately forced a trade to the Rockets. He has been booed mercilessly at GM Place ever since, but says he'll be sorry if the Grizzlies leave. "It was never anything against the city or the people," Francis says. "In fact, I love playing there because every time I go there I seem to have a good game and we manage to win." I am not sure whether this would put Steve on better terms with the Grizz fans or piss 'em off again. ------------------ Don't look at the feet
Man, not sure if I should say this or not, but here it goes. Memphis has been reported to be the favorite location if and when Vancouver decides to move. I just happen to live in Memphis. The dilemma Who do I support if Vancouver relocates to Memphis? I have been a fan of the rockets for as long as I can remember at least since Sampson was drafted, but since I don't get to see them much anymore nor can I go to any of their games, I only follow them through the box scores and this fine web site. I am worried then that my loyalty might falter under the everyday pressure of a major francise in Memphis. What you guys think? What would you all do? I know I will be supporting the rockets when they come to town! ------------------ I am an invisible man.
kbm, hopefully you will make the right decision. I lived in Houston until I was 18, and then moved to Dallas. Not until this year has the Mavs had a decent team to watch, but it has been surprisingly easy to not become a "Mavericks fan". I just have too much history with the Rockets, even though Dallas has a better team that is almost a lock to go to the playoffs this year. Make the right decision, dude. ------------------ "all your base are belong to us!" "you have no chance to survive make your time!"
LOL! Can't believe you guys didn't catch that line... or am I just reading too much into it? Sounded like a backhanded compliment if I ever heard one. ------------------ "I was arrested for sexual assault involving an elderly man and I was out in 35 minutes." -- Achebe - programmer by day, geriatric ass grabber by night. I hope the Grizz go to Memphis, forcing a re-alignment. The Midwest division would include Utah, Denver, Minnesota, Chicago, Illinois, Milwaukee, and Detroit. The, er, Central Division would include the three Texas teams, Memphis, Toronto, Cleveland, and Atlanta. Well, you get the idea. The league is too lopsided. Time to reshape it in the Rockets' favor! ------------------
kbm - I live in Memphis and have been a life-long Rocket fan too. I'm amazed that Memphis has been rumored to be the front-runner for the Grizz, but the Rockets will always be my team. Thanks to Directv and League Pass, I've been able to follow the Rockets even more now than when I first moved here!
The best spot to move to is Memphis? Memphis will never be anyone's favorite place to move. Believe me. Stay a Rocket's fan. I can guarantee you that Memphis won't have a professional team of any kind for many years. It's a hell-hole. ------------------ "I never did like that "Dr. Stupid""-Monty Burns
There was an article out of Vancouver that said the NBA's first choice for a new home for the Grizz was Memphis. The city certainly doesn't appear to be Heisley's first choice, though (though one of his people did visit the city and talk to some folks). ------------------ Houston Sports Board The Anti-Bud Adams Page
Memphis has one of the best street basketball players in the nation. Seriously, they have great players in Memphis. I know the people there will love it but I dont see Memphis getting it. ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
Didn't ELVIS move here? B.B King. Al Green. Jerry Lee (Read: Stack Records and Sun Studios). BTW, can you name a street in Houston more famous than Beale Street in Memphis? Here is my edit: Memphis may not be as large as Houston (and BTW I lived in Houston for 22 years) but it has a lot of history and it's thriving. The reason the NBA is pushing Vancouver to move here is because Memphis has strong corporate support (FedEx)and Memphis doesn't have any other profession team here, which the NBA has always prefered. And just for the record fatty, I enjoy living in Memphis! ------------------ I am an invisible man. [This message has been edited by kbm (edited March 03, 2001).]
