It's been that way since John Quincy Adams' supporters labeled Andrew Jackson's wife as a w****. Blame JQA.
Enjoy your break. See you in December, hopefully. But, I disagree we'll see Trump coming back to make it competitive. This is a landslide. And, aside from being prurient, I've found this campaign cycle to be highly educational. I didn't know we had so many Americans who would respond well to xenophobic and racist overtures. I didn't know having a divided field was so dangerous and that our primary process was so vulnerable. I didn't know the extreme degree to which politicians would sacrifice their core principles for a chance at short-term political gain. I didn't know the extreme depth of confirmation bias and rationalization people would go to when making choices in highly partisan environments. I didn't realize how much 'identity politics' is still a thing. I didn't know how evangelical-poor our evangelicals are. I didn't know anything about the alt-right. I didn't understand that the objection to 'political correctness' was actually a coded objection to the American ideal of a tolerant, multicultural society. This has all been ugly, but I wouldn't write it off as merely a circus -- the soul of the nation has been laid bare in a lot of ways.
As someone who is voting 3rd party... I don't even understand how the **** Trump has supporters. My mother is brainwashed by the dude and she's become bat **** crazy calling democrats c*nts on Facebook. And now she's posting **** Paul Ryan that traitor!! She's 65 years old. While I don't support Hillary, I at least feel like she can do the job. Now that other guy....
Sir, I am so sorry, but I am laughing hysterically at this image of a 65 year-old woman using the C-word on Facebook. I mean, im' laughing right now... I gotta go- this election is.... ha ha ha $%^&*(*&^%$%^&*()(*
It's ridiculous. And she's the nicest woman in the world. But she's gone crazy. My fiancée is terrified to be alone with her if she's been drinking because she just goes on political tirades.
It's November 7th and the race has tightened. I can't believe the October surprise ended up being an FBI letter which was followed by a no charges letter yesterday. I can't believe Wikileaks decided to pursue a story about Hillary and Podesta being the anti-christ or satan worshippers. I can't believe Blue Lives Matter didn't get uttered when a crazy guy shoots two cops. There is a whole lot more unbelievably crazy things that have happened since my hiatus. But after casting my ballot for Hillary and the democrats on the ballot, I am back. In less than 48 hours hopefully this long national embarrassment of an election is behind us and the 2020 election takes its sweet ass time from starting.
If you don't want a repeat of morons shitstorming the process in 2020, 2018 is the date to write down.
Or since John Adams supporters said that if Jefferson was elected he would burn all the Bibles in the US. Negative campaigning has been with us since the start of the country. The difference is that now the country is so much larger and also the information age makes it easier to transmit false and negative information so mcuh faster. On top of that the fragmentation of information means that people can reinforce their own views rather than new information that challenges those views.
