I listen to MAD radio podcast if I miss it in the morning. I usually listen to podcasts on planes (I travel quite a bit), but will probably start incorporating it into my daily routine, yearning for the day 610 brings CP back.
I love when Seth goes off the rails...not sure why I find it so entertaining. In any case, Mike and Seth are a good combo. If anything happens to that show, then I'll just have nowhere to go.
The last time i really remember listening back in the day it was Lance and John in the AM on my drive to work and sometimes in the office, same with Palillo in the PM. Jim Rome on my lunch break. Late nights there was Arnie Spanier and that other guy (Bob something?) who hated Houston fans/callers. I still remember midnight of the trading deadline in '98, a buddy of mine called and said "turn the radio on", it was Arnie Spanier going nuts about the Stros getting Randy Johnson.
Bob Kemp from 1on1 Sports. He loved trolling Houston listeners on 610 to get the overnight calls. You could still make an argument that 610's lineup circa 1998-2000 is still the best ever in Houston sports radio-- 6a-7a '610 Scoreboard' Adam Wexler and Kenny Hand. 7a-11a "The Bench" w/ John Granato and Lance Zerlein 11a-2p Jim Rome 2p-3p Kenny Hand interview hour 3p-7p 'Section 610' w/ Rich Lord & Charlie Palillo (plus David Dalati on the updates) 7p-11p 'The Zone' Matt Jackson & Jeremy Foster. 11p-1a 1on1 Sports Arnie Spanier 1a-5a 1on1 Sports Bob Kemp As far as 2017 goes...I wouldn't count out Palillo re-teaming with Dalati for middays or afternoons on 97.5. They always worked well together.
I don't listen to sports talk but why 790? Why hire an ignorant **** who bashes the hometown teams(those very teams you air) and bashes the other radio in town? That's not good radio. Sports Radio 610 using Josh Innes' arrival to court SportsTalk 790 sponsors Spoiler SportsTalk 790 (KBME AM) is trumpeting new talk-show host Josh Innes' arrival at the station, both in on-air promos and on its website. It turns out rival Sports Radio 610 (KILT AM) also is trying to capitalize on the polarizing Innes' return to the Houston radio market. A screen grab of an email sent out Wednesday morning by Sean Russell, a senior account manager for CBS Houston Radio, to a prospective advertiser showed Innes' former station is using his reputation to lure sponsors from 790. The letter read: "I hope all is well. I am sure you are aware of the new hire to the afternoon s how on 790; I wanted to share a clip of some of his work with you (attached). I would love to get you in front of the largest sports audience in Houston as well as get your business unassociated with this type of programming. Let me know if we can meet and discuss Sports Radio 610 sometime this week or next. Thanks!" When reached Thursday, Russell said "I can't comment on any emails." Innes, however, had plenty to say on the opening segment of his drive-time show Wednesday, blasting his former employer 610 - where he hosted a show for four years before leaving in December 2013 - and parent company CBS Radio. "There's an email going out about me because the cowards over at CBS Radio, the absolute chicken-bleep cowards at CBS Radio are so concerned that this show may come into town and take some business and some listeners from them that their sales people are emailing the clients of this radio station and besmirching my good name," Innes said. "A fella named Sean Russell - I don't know if he's the only one sending or the guy above him ordered the Code Red; I don't know if it's a company-wide thing that they said, 'You must send this to the clients of people at 790,' I don't know. Sean Russell, who I thought was a buddy of mine ... This guy shouldn't have a job after this, though." Innes blasted CBS Radio as "a dying cluster of horrible radio stations that don't pay anybody anything, by the way" and called Russell and station ownership cowards while insulting various 610 personnel as "a bad group of people" and even disparaged the looks of one senior female executive. "I hate that radio station," Innes said. "I wasn't going to go there and say that about these guys because there are (on-air) people there that I like. They're good people and had nothing to do with this." In his extended rant, Innes also used crude terms to refer to veteran 610 personality Rich Lord - a former co-host of Innes' at the station - and former adult film star Lisa Ann, who is a weekly guest for a fantasy-football segment on 610's drive-time show "The Triple Threat." Innes called Lord, Sean Pendergast and Ted Johnson, the hosts of that show, "three schlubs in the afternoon who say nothing interesting" and also used crude analogies to describe the relationship between KILT and the Texans, whose games and programming air on the station. Innes' first week on the air at KBME has been an interesting one, to say the least. He spent his first show mocking predecessor Charlie Pallilo, the widely respected veteran sports-talk host whom Innes replaced, and his ratings. Innes and producer Jim Mudd also played the theme song to the 1970s sitcom "Sanford and Son" before African-American callers joined the program. According to Innes, the audio of that was attached on Russell's email. "We were clearly doing satire," Innes said Wednesday. Before his return to Houston, Innes was fired by Philadelphia sports talk station WIP. Before his dismissal, he had tweeted out a photo of a performer in blackface, referring to a scandal involving a producer at a competing station, 97.5 The Fanatic, creating a fictional African-American caller featuring crude racial stereotypes. That resulted in an on-air personality, the producer and program director being suspended three days. Innes himself is no stranger to racial controversy himself. He was suspended in January for using a racial epithet to describe Eagles center Jason Kelce on his show. Innes had mocked Kelce, who is white, for kissing up to new coach Doug Peterson and used a pejorative slavery-era term used to compare an African-American to a house slave. Innes later apologized for the remarks, which were roundly condemned. In his apology, Innes called himself "the dumbest human being on the planet," adding "I'm an idiot."
Flipped to 790 during another show's break and was surprised to hear Innes actually talking sports. Well, it lasted for about 5 min before he started going off on another rant. It's a shame because when he talks sports he is actually not bad. It's just the other crap he brings that turns me off from him. Not a big fan of 610 at 3pm so I am screwed for the moment.
I'm more of a recent follower of sports radio and kinda fell onto 790 looking for draft and baseball talk. Anyhow, enjoy the PGS guys and listened to Sean /Adam during lunch and then Charlie P after work. Found Charlie knowledgeable and willing to talk about anything. And he was respectful. Josh comes off as gloaty, cocky, and a bit of a di*k, and I am in his target demographic. 35yo/m. I don't have twitter, but who starts bashing the guy whose job you just took? Have you no class? Was there beef before? Also, yesterday I flipped the dial, when he said his goal was to create a regional station (from Dallas to San Antonio) and maintain Houston. Where callers call in and argue or discuss their respective teams. I could care less abt Dallas sports or any non Houston team. I don't wanna spend time listening to other fans on my drive home. Who else is with me? Also at the moment, his show is just a bunch of random trash talking other people. Then subsequently, right now they just joke among one another random stuff, non sports related. Will tune into CP when he lands but keep the other 790 guys.
Sales people have to try anything to get new accounts, if they don't they are quickly replaced. Emailing and calling is pretty much their job. Using his own words against him is a fair tactic. Selling ads for a show is the bottom line and ratings are only used to sell more ads.
Somewhere a giant bag of money with a big $ on the side got stuck in the faces of the powers that be at 790 and they were bought out by Jim mudd and JI.
That's true...I like when he talks sports. It's just that it comes along with 10x as much BS that is just noise. If he stuck with sports, he'd be entertaining enough for me to listen to him.
Agree with you and jae in that when he's not off the rails, he's actually kind of fun to listen to, but it's like riding a sine wave or something. One minute you're like "I don't get what people have against this guy, he's not bad" and the next he's laying into past co-workers, people in Philly, insulting listeners, ragging on Pallilo, etc. and you want off the ride. lol Did he ever say if he and Pallilo had any kind of beef or is this just his thing?
haven't even tuned to that station since the announcement but I think dante hall just killed Chupacabra. "No one yells at me homie. I'm not your child. I'll go there and smack you." pretty epic stuff. bout time.
I do think it's funny that everyone is listing qualifiers as to why they were listening before commenting on the show - myself included. That being said, I only listened on Thursday because Mudd is a friend of mine and I had gone over my data plan for the month and couldn't listen to the podcast I usually listen to........but Ennis did mention Clutchfans on Thursday, I believe. He said something to the effect of he hadn't checked lately, but was pretty sure we all still hate him.
I called Arnie Spanier completely wasted during game 1 of the 98 Finals. I had been at BW3 on 6th for the first half and had to go home since the A/C went out at the bar. I asked him how much he'd charge me to have him kick Papa Joe Chevalier's ass. He said a cheeseburger. I also had my most prophetical moment with him after the 1997 CFB season when I told him not only did I believe Ricky Williams would return, he'd both win the Heisman and break the NCAA rushing record. Sidenote: I found out about Johnson trade the morning after the day after. I was moving from Austin to San Marcos and was at Walmart when I saw it as a blurb on the top of the front page of the AAS. Couldn't believe it!
chupacabra is john lopez, the goat sucker. He sucks the blood out everything. They don't have it up but it was more awkward than josh vs rich lord. I'll listen to Arnie on sunday nights just for nostalgic purposes. miss the 90s!
