Hell must be freezing over cause here I am starting two threads in a half-hour. Gotta be a record for me. but anyway, I was just sitting here at work and listening to one of my many mix cds (one of the best reasons to rip your music collection to computer) and wondering if many of you love to make your own discs like I do ( I have maybe 15 different mix CDs) and if so.. What are your criteria for choosing what you put on them? and What is on your favorite mix CD? and for those who don't have a CD burner so you can create your own mix CDs....come up with a list of songs that you would use if you did. (I can normally fit 17 or 18 songs on one disc) the one I am listening to right now...(Im in kinda mellow mood, so these arent as hardcore as you might expect from me) All's Fair in Love and War -- Lillian Axe Night Ranger -- Night Ranger Jane -- Jefferson Starship Sing Me Away -- Night Ranger She Likes It On Top -- Lillian Axe Hell is for Children -- Pat Benetar Wait -- Vandenberg No Way Out -- Jefferson Starship Call Me -- Blondie Since You've Been Gone -- the Cars Let's Get Rocked -- Def Leppard Heaven Sent -- Dokken Crazy On You -- Heart Heartbeat -- Riggs Working For a Living -- Huey Lewis and the News Freeze Frame -- J Geils Band Don't Close your Eyes -- Kix Find Another Fool -- Quarterflash
I like finding setlists on the internet from shows that I attended, then making a mix CD with it and re-living the show all over again. It works even better if you can find live versions of the songs. Right now, I'm re-living Weezer's Outloud Tour Houston stop. =w= After that, I'll re-live DMB's last stop in The Woodlands.
I don't have a burner, but if I did I would make numerous mix CDs, including one containing these songs: "Everybody's Fool" - Evanescence "Goodbye to You" - Scandal "Chico's Groove" - Chemical Brothers "Criminal" - Fiona Apple "Rainy Day Women #12 and #35" - Bob Dylan "(You're So) Physical" - Nine Inch Nails "Don't Leave Home" - Dido "God Is a DJ" - Faithless "God" - Smashing Pumpkins "Olsen Olsen" - Sigur Ros "Plainsong" - The Cure "How to Disappear Completely" - Radiohead "The Scientist" - Coldplay "Mouth for War" - Pantera "Mother" - Danzig "Bodyrock" - Moby "Cloudbusting" - Kate Bush "Games Without Frontiers" - Peter Gabriel "Silence" - Delerium Featuring Sarah McLachlan "Shoplifters of the World Unite" - The Smiths
All of the CDs in my car are mixes. Current one: Led Zeppelin - Heartbreaker/Livin' Lovin' Maid Georgia Satelites - Keep Your Hands to Yourself Great White - Once Bitten Twice Shy Warrant - Cherry Pie Winger - Seventeen Guns N Roses - Paradise City Aerosmith - Rag Doll Aerosmith - Dude Looks Like a Lady Robert Palmer - Simply Irresistable Love and Affection - Nelson Poison - Unskinny Bop Poison - Nothin' But a Good Time Eddie Money - Take Me Home Tonight Eddie Money - Shakin' Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me The criteria I use is just grouping them by common themes (i.e., greatest hits, same genre, etc.). No clear-cut favorite, but the Bon Jovi and Van Halen(Roth era) discs are probably the two most played.
I do that also. Small world! The mix CD I am listening to now is a mix of a bunch of blues songs I downloaded using Kazaa Lite. Heavy on the Muddy Waters, with some Otis Spann, Little Walter, Slim Harpo, Big Mama Thornton, Albert Collins and Lightnin' Hopkins thrown in for good measure.
As usual, Manny blows me away with the different styles he would put on one CD. and AS, with you and Freak around...hair bands will never die! I just got an urge for some harder stuff, so I went out to the car and got a different one... here goes. Surfing With the Alien -- Joe Satriani Mr Scary -- Dokken Sportin a Woody -- Dangerous Toys Jane -- Jefferson Starship (howd that get in there?) Screaming For Vengeance -- Judas Priest Satch Boogie -- Joe Satriani Livewire -- ACDC Take Hold of the Flame -- Queensryche Along the Watchtower -- Jimi Breath and a Scream -- Lynch/Pilson Runaway -- Damn Yankees Fight Fire with Fire -- Metallica Ride The Lightning -- Metallica Shoot To Thrill -- ACDC Will the Sun Rise -- Dokken Initiation/ I'm Alive -- Helloween Bloodstone -- Judas Priest I never said what my criteria is...I dont really have one. I go browsing thru my MP3 directory/drive nad just drag whatever appeals to me at the moment.....tho it normally goes with whatever mood Im in at the time.. I have a blues CD where I have BB King/Muddy Waters/Robert Johnson/SRV/Johnnie Lang,etc.. I have a funk CD with lots of 70's funk...Ohio Players/early Commodores/Barry White/EWF/Clinton and PFunk, etc.. and of course. loads of Heavy Metal one with late 60's early 70's stuff... I go all over the place with these..just whatever.
Hell yeah. This is one of the greatest songs in the history of the world. Especially good for those weekend nights when you're in an 'altered' state

I need to make some more mix cds. I just bought a 50 pack of cdrs for 3 bucks. from TDK. I miss new music, the damn firewall at my apartments keeps us from downloading music/or sigining into anything like that. TO THE WINDOWS!
I made a cd mix of songs containing handclaps for my wife last Valentine's Day (I Caught the Clap for Valentine's Day). I can't remember the exact setlist, but it had the obvious handclap songs like Please Mr. Postman, Take the Money and Run by Steve Miller, My Best Friend's Girl by the Cars, an early Beatles song, and cool stuff by the Meters, Led Zeppelin's Brin Y Aur Stomp (spelled that wrong, but it's off of Led Zeppelin III), and a recent band called The Liars. I like making thematic cds. Lots of fun.
Most of my mixed CD's are 70's songs. One of my faves is: 70's Soul What's Goin On----------------------Marvin Gaye Sail On----------------------------------Commodores Oh Girl----------------------------------Chi Lites Fire--------------------------------------Ohio Players Have You Seen Her------------------Chi Lites Tell Me Something Good------------Rufus I Believe In Miracles-----------------Hot Chocolate Midnight Train To Georgia----------Gladys Knight and the Pips Easy------------------------------------Commodores Can't Get Enough Of Your Love--Barry White September----------------------------EWF Fantasy--------------------------------EWF Brickhouse----------------------------Commodores Low Rider-----------------------------War
Excellent "reflective, driving alone at night" mix...I actually have one very similar to the top half of your CD, but I think I finish it out with some more U2, some Bob Dylan, and one or two Coldplay songs.
Knuckling through the soundwaves... Schoolboys in Disgrace - The Kinks Preservation: A play in two acts - The Kinks Phobia - The Kinks Everybody's in Showbiz - The Kinks Parachute - The Pretty Things Kissproof World - Jane Wiedlin Forever Changes - Love Eldorado - ELO Though, with a better part of my albums loaded onto itunes/ipod, I tend to bounce around a bevy of songs.
Oh, and thoughtlessly left out of my previous post. The mixes that have been compiled with those, and all general compilations are shrouded in mystery. For they usually have a larger project or running thought attached to them. I've even gone at lengths to hire Sgt. Schultz for security.
actually, I felt that their first two albums were the good ones. i have only heard one song from Psycho.. but it gets better ratings at allmusic.com than the first two (Lillian Axe & Love and War), so I might need to check it out a little further. btw...the two songs on my list are from Love and War. Uprising, are they blocking you from the p2p services? have you tried going thru the newsgroups? They might not have that blocked. Finn, That actually sounds real similar to my funk mix cd.. Commodores Ohio Players EWF Barry White War and then I threw in a few George Clinton and Parliament songs ofr good measure..
