Well, look on the bright side: At least the Suns are playing even worse (allowed 113 points to the Nuggets!)
I can't help but think how much better this team would look in the preseason with at least one of Glen Rice or Eric Piatowski. It would've made execution a lot easier I think.
World Champ Spurs with arguably the best player in the NBA, a respected coach and a veteran team 2002-03 preseason record = 5-3 featuring two wins over Philly and one each over MIA & NO while losing two to the Knicks and one to the Rox without Francis. Ho-hum....it's pre-season, folks...
For the team, I would give an F. But for JVG, I would give an A. He simply got right to the point of teaching Rockets how to play team ball instead of street ball. For the last few years, Rockets have been mediore with a combination of talent and no team play. JVG get to the basics of forcing team play. It will take a while for us to get better. Rockets look horrible right now because they never learned to play team ball with Francis and Mobley. But it is much better than being medicore with street ball forever!
Rhester, there were times(2) in the last two games when we were within 5 or 6 after being down big. JVG then went to what he had planned to do or for what ever reason he took out a player or two and came in with scrubs. I really do believe that if JVG wanted to win, he could have. My biggest concern is on the defensive end but I know that it may have had to take a back seat, in the time so far, to establishing an offensive culture. Breaking the old offensive culture and installing the foundation of a new one is critical and the time left is sufficient to get us going. Also, no one should be surprised that our perimeter defense is behind if you know that JVG does not have Posey, AD, Hawk and Mobes, in the case of last night, to count on.
wow peoples, little to no love for the home team. it's PRESEASON!! and the first few games of preseason at that. In the next few games i bet the starters get more playing time, and a couple of the guys with no chance will take their reserved spot at the end of the bench to wait until cut day. i'll reserve judgement till the last preseason game or the opener.
I agree that we should panic. We're playing horrible basketball right now with our 2nd and 3rd string guys. Francis, Yao and Cuttino are getting worn out playing 20-25 minutes per game, and it has to stop! We're pushing them too hard. Even though we've seen great things from some of our rookie prospects, I'm still worried. When we look back at this PRE-SEASON 5 years from now, it's still gonna hurt just as bad.
Well hopefully other teams don't shoot as well as the Sonics and Hornets did...our perimeter defense..well they tried but opposing teams were just draining 3's. Interior defense is a slightly better. We don't have Adrian Griffin. Offense...they are still learning. It's looking kinda better. We don't have Maurice Taylor and Eric Piatkowski! It's kinda sad that we have lost all 4 games...but we have to win at least one time...not against Kings though.
They need to beat the Kings up! I am actually going to Arco Arena to watch it. Was planning to bring a huge "Ming Dynasty Begins" sign. But now I am not sure with the current performance...
