I read somewhere that Dermarr Johnson was waived by the Suns. He was the 6th pick by the Hawks in 00-01 and hasn't really lived up to his potential - of course he had that car accident which nearly cost him his career, but seems to be fine now. Does anyone know his status as a basketball player as far as how well he plays(especially after the accident)? I've never seen him play much, but if Rox can pick him up cheap, he may turn out to be a great spark off the bench. I don't believe he has been given much opportunity, but then again, I can't talk 'cos I don't know much about his game. All I can recall was in his rookie season, he made some drives and slashes to the hoop for some highlight reel jams. We don't have those sparkplugs that can come off the bench to produce in few given minutes.
Well, I agree, but he covered his bases with the statment, "I've never seen him play much, but if Rox can pick him up cheap, he may turn out to be a great spark off the bench." But at least he didn't spell it "Demarr" like everyone else has been doing.
I would really love to sign Johnson. He's a long, lean F/G that, at one point, showed enough potential to warrant the 6th overall draft choice. I WOULND'T get your hopes up that he's the second coming or the answer to our problems (JJ isn't really a problem, but...) at the 3. Dude's NOT the same player he was. There's a reason he's been released or unsigned by the Hawks and Suns. I'll repeat though, I would love to sign him because I think he potentially could be a good 6th man in the future and the risk would be little to nothing. I remember he had a SWEET shooting touch in college and if he can rekindle that in any way, we should drop a minimum paycheck on him and give him a chance. Can you imagine Yao passing out of a double team to a long 6'9 shooting guard with a good 3 point touch? It's would the few hundred thousand IMHO.
