Guys, please don't discuss the TX State or UTSA games here. This is a safe space. Don't trigger me.

Did those happen during the "let's hire the special teams coach as HC" years?

    Yes. Dark days, my friend.

It's hard to decide which game was worse.

Giant Douche vs Turd Sandwich for sure.

Didn't Herman say they were no longer going to schedule FCS schools once their current contracted games are over?

Lamar and Texas State are FBS. We have no FCS schools on contract and are not going to schedule them anymore, either.

Looks like a 6.7 Nielsen rating for # UHvsCin in Houston on ESPN, which is a strong number. # jetsvsbills, by comparison, did 7.7 on Ch. 11.

Rice should be UH's warmup/scrimmage game every year.

I agree with this. I'd rather give him reps to work out whatever issues he's having with the O Line. Once we've stepped on TXST's throats, we can pull him.

I believe I read somewhere OU scheduled the UH game two years ago. So before Tom Herman. When they could barely beat a slightly above average team.

Lamar is FCS (they play in the same conference as SHSU). This year was the final year we played an FCS team and won't be playing them in the future.

That's incredibly impressive when you think about it. It tells you a lot about these two schools when they could give a nationally televised, NFL game, with a NY team involved, a run for its money.

Ah right. I thought Lamar was Sunbelt for some reason. Derp.

It really is very impressive. To get within spitting distance of the NFL on any night is great.

To put in perspective, that 6.7 would have put it in the top 10 of last year's most watched CFB games in Houston.

Not too far off in the end. Lots of ways to think through this:

Total Yards: UH 500 yds, Cincy 300; domination UH
Rushing Yards: UH 180, Cincy 30; domination UH
YPCarry: UH 3.2, Cincy 1.2; advantage UH (can't call it domination b/c of how poor 3.2 is on an absolute basis)
YPAttempt: UH 9.1, Cincy 7.1; strong advantage UH
First Downs: UH 28, Cincy 12; domination UH
Time of Poss: UH 38, Cincy 22; domination UH
Turnover Margin: +/- 0. advantage Cincy (A bit silly to give advantage to Cincy given the 2 UH Def TD's but that weights context too heavily for a quantitative approach)

Hence, I see the internals as supportive of a 3 TD win for UH (18-21) in a game with 56 total pts. Consequently, IMO, the final margin of UH +24 only slightly overstates what the stats would argue.

Qualitatively, watching the game, UH's Defense ranged from dominant, imposing their will, to above average. UH's Offense struggled at crucial junctures, couldn't sustain drives unless they got the Cincy defense off-balance with tempo, and had some bad turnovers. Special Teams was inconsistent with the punt team managing to pin Cincy deep plenty of times, but too many punts were shanked and afforded Cincy advantageous field position.

You were right just barely... 24.

I had this as 27-20 Coogs but it could have been a lot more than 24 if Ward doesn't turn it over in the redzone.

UH run defense is legit. Coach TT said in his post game interview he was more disappointed his Bear-kitties couldn't run the ball than he was losing. It is going to be a fun season.
