Pretty disturbing, now they most likely will have to put down all 63 dogs. It amazes me on how people can treat other living things like complete crap. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/printstory.hts/topstory/2149910 Oct. 10, 2003, 5:34PM 5 arrested, 63 pit bulls seized in raid on alleged dog-fight ring By PEGGY O'HARE Copyright 2003 Houston Chronicle In a section of northeast Houston where roads are narrow, ditches are overgrown with weeds and "no trespassing" signs are abundant, authorities today uncovered what they described as an elaborate dog-fighting ring, arresting five people and seizing more than 63 pit bulls. At first, it looked like a scene out of Deliverance, with roosters strutting across the property, dozens of crudely fashioned dog houses lining the grounds, junked cars and satellite dishes visible. But then officers found evidence indicating the dog fights went far beyond mere casual interest -- treadmills used to condition the pit bulls, a raccoon suspended in a cage serving as bait on a dog track, a pit hidden in the woods lined with bloodstained carpet and surrounded by lights on poles. Investigators also found steroids and other enhancing drugs they believe were used on the animals. Howls filled the woods as SPCA officials began rounding up the dogs and loading them in cages on the property in the 7500 block of Furay off East Mount Houston Road. A father, son and three other men at the home were arrested on a variety of charges, ranging from dog fighting to drugs to evading arrest, Harris County Sheriff's officials said. Dog fighting is a state jail felony in Texas, said SPCA Chief Cruelty Investigator Jim Boller, carrying a punishment of 180 days to two years in jail and a maximum fine of $10,000 per charge. Despite that, dog fighters usually see the activity as a money maker, he said -- pit bulls such as those seized today typically cost $1,000 to several thousand dollars. "The owners probably looked at this as a very lucrative business," Boller said. Because the dogs were trained to fight and could pose a serious danger if they ever got loose in a neighborhood, the prospect of them finding homes is grim, SPCA officials said. "These are not family dogs ... These are basically fighting machines," Boller said.
HA!!! I laugh at your 63 pit bulls!!!!! Talk to me when yer dealing with tigers and alligators! Not meaning to make light of your thread rocketfan. Yes! That's most disturbing. Especially when my wife and I have been looking for a dog to adopt!
What's totally sad is that those dogs most assuredly will be put down. I tried once to take in a dog that I believe had been abused. Things were great. She was probably the sweetest dog I ever owned, but as she became more acclimated she started attacking my other dog. It was all very sad, because you could tell all she wanted was to be loved. These people are scum. Thats all there is to it.
Anybody who treats an pet like that is one of the lowest forms of life on this planet. What a bunch of bastards.
What pleasure can people get out of seeing animals tear one another up? I honestly don't get it. Stuff like this sickens me. This brings up a question in my mind. What organizations are there to support the humane treatment of animals? I'm not talking about PETA. The Petsmart where I live asks if you want to donate money for animal shelters, but I don't know much beyond something like that.
Humans have been doing this with animals since...a long time ago. Hell humans actually did/do it with other humans. Today we have boxing, the Romans had gladiators, Spaniards have bull fighting, English participated in bull and other animal baiting, some Asian countries fight Betas, **** figting is still legal in a few US states I believe. It may be sick but some people do get something out of it, excitement and money.
Anyone who accumulates 63 pit bulls is deeply disturbed. Not so much because it's "cruel", but because pit bulls are inherently dangerous dogs. You're just asking for trouble. How many times do we see on the news rottweilers and pit bulls attacking and maiming children? I have no sympathy for the animals because they've always been bred to attack and kill, both things at which they've excelled.
