Why do you rarely see mixed couples where the guy is of Asian descent?

Walking through Bangkok, I saw a lot of white or black guys with Asian girls...but I did not see any couples where the guy would be Asian and the girl white or black.

That made me think about it and I realized that no matter where I was (Houston or anywhere), it would be much more often that I would see mixed couples where the girl would be Asian than mixed couples where the guy is Asian. I only know a handful of examples where it is the other way around.

What do you think is the reason for this? Do white or black girls not find Asian guys attractive, or less attractive?

Just curious, and I hope this does not become a confrontative discussion, I just put it into this forum because I don't know if it might.

I blame the media. They objectivy Asian women , therefore they are seen as a kind of exotic treat. The media also tells us that the white man is the most desirable and attractive, EXAMPLE a show like the bachelor, I do not watch it but I believe that all the contestants are all white. Are they trying to tell us that there are no asian, black, or hispanic bachelors?

I live in California and I can gaurantee that u will see alot of couples where the female is Asian and the male is white. Most of these females have been , as I said, brainwashed by the so-called media. They feel that white is the most attractive, therefore do not date members of their own race. Its really unfortunate, there is a term for that , "white-washed". They are also referred to as bananas (yellow on the out side, white inside).

I know I am probaly gonna get blasted for this:mad: , but I honestly do not care. Its how I feel because I personally see this trend as a degradation of my culture.

Jackie, I think it is obvious in Bangkok why you see the foreign tourist types, White, or Black with the local Asian women. It is the same reason that you see rich old guys with young women in whatever culture. Money.

I never really thought of whether in Houston Asian men are less likely to date Caucasian women than Caucasian men dating Asian women. We have at least one Asian man claiming this is true. Is this really that true?

If true, it could be that Asian men generally prefer Asian women. I agree it could be the media and glamorizing of Caucasian men and the allure of supposedly submissive Asian women. I don't know. It is an interesting topic.

BTW are these Asian women really that submissive, when educated and living in the US, for example. I just wouldn't know from experience.

Sort of related, but in reverse I think it is true that African American men are more likely to date Caucasian women than, Caucasian guys are to date African American women. This seems to be gradually changing.

I think it is more the other way around. I could be wrong, but I remember that I once talked to a German girl about it and my impression is that white or black or hispanic girls generally prefer anything but Asian guys. Why, I do not know, this is what I am trying to find out. It would be interesting to hear from some of the BBS ladies about this, but I could imagine that they might be hesitant to voice their honest feelings about this.

On average, I do not think they are submissive at all, it might just seem like that at first. Of the Asian women I know, most have a pretty strong will and are actually the "boss" at home.

For what it is worth, I would date a pretty black girl anytime :).

Perhaps a large number of asian men are still traditional minded (especially in Bankok)... They are concerned about their genealogy, their offspring etc... normally traditional minded person will get caught up in race issues when in comes to choosing their partner.

Asian women have been sexualized and Asian men have been emasculated by the Western world. Seeds of colonialism.

Similar to blacks across Europe and the US except the black men were demonized into a kind of sexual predator for white women to fear (such as in Birth of a Nation).

It was all just justification, thogh - the women want to be raped and the men don't deserve rights.

    Dude, your in Bangkok...

That place rocks...I've spent some time there...Don't forget to get a Thai massage and go to the clubs...

However, some of the shows are freaky and demeaning to women, which is not a good thing when those women are barely legal...:(

I actually have a cold and headache right now (some freaking dumb"$"! next to me on the plane from Colombo to Bangkok kept sneezing in my direction), which is why I am online again all the time instead of going out (like I was in Hawaii). I actually even rented a computer from the hotel now (to which I hooked up my own hard drive), so that I can access clutchcity.net :D.

Regarding these shows, I think I do not want to go into that area anyway...yesterday, I got a massage (only therapeutic and with some clothes on! :)) for two hours for something like 12 dollars or so.

For some reason, I usually do not feel too attracted to Asian girls (don't know why, actually, kind of related to this thread, but I have no explanation), but I have seen some amazingly pretty ones here in the hotel (I think there is one of the most upscale discotheques in town in this hotel). Since I am sick, I retreated to my hotel room, though :).

i think it is a myth that most asian men prefer asian women. caucausian women have been just as much objectified in the east as "attractive" and "desirable". asian men, especially those who have not travelled much or those raised in the West, find blue-eyed blondes with white skin intensely exotic and attractive.

the same influences are at work here. hollywood. global commercialism, historic imperialism all give the image of white women as elegant, mesmerising, and very sexy.

    just my 2cents. :p

I think this also has a lot to do with the media's portrayal of Asian men. They are often portrayed as asexual geeks (ie. Long Duk Dong of Sixteen Candles) or undesirable male partners (ie. The Joy Luck Club). You would never find a Asian-American male in a lead role for a movie or television show. I would be hard pressed to name one that had nothing to do with matrial arts. When Asian guys are shown on screen they never gets the girl, much less get to kiss her. I think this portrayal gets into the psyche of females which is in sharp contrast to the portrayal of Asian females as sexually active, exotic, overly feminine and eager to please. A good site to go on the negative portrayal of Asian-Americans coud be found here

Good points. The only movie I can think of from the top of my head where this is different is the one with that king, with Jodie Foster. I have forgotten the name, but that is really the only one I can remember.

i agree with j diddy, the media has something to do with it. however, as a result of it, asian ams have a tendecy to go along with the stereotypes, much like many of the other minorities in the US. yeah, there are a lot of girls that say they wont date a certain ethnicity but ive proven them wrong on a few occasions. ethnicity or not, confidence and suave makes girls go crazy and it beats everything else, including race.
my prom date was a blond girl who was taller than me, and i could feel a lot of burning stares, ive also taken a few girls from their white bfs, So although i believe the stereotypes affect the race on the whole, i havent found that they affected me. as long as one does not conform to it on their first impression, they can find it as a bigger advantage than a disadvantage. this is not all white girls, sometimes i heard that they wouldnt think i would like them because they were white. aparently there is also a stereotype that asian guys only date asian girls.
of course now, i have my asian gf who i love very much, so all those other girls lost their chance, thats how i think of it.

One of the best movies this year, Better Luck Tomorrow, had almost all Asian-American actors and an Asian-American director.

For what it's worth, both my friend Alex and I find a lot of asian men very attractive. (In particular, the Japanese singer Gackt, who we would probably fight over till the ends of the earth. ^.^) In fact, she is currently dating someone of asian descent (sp?).

As a half-asian, I think that those stereotypes are quite pervasive in our society. A lot of it has to do with the movies and television, where few if any Asian males were ever depicted as positive, normal leaders who didn't kick anyone or pull out a calculator to accomplish their task. I think another stereotype is that Asian women are submissive and meek. My mother regularly lets my white father know who wears the boss pants in our family. :D

In any case, white women are conditioned to see Asian males as geeks with pocket protectors and bad accents (like that guy in Revenge of the Nerds or Long Duc Dong in Sixteen Candles) who are not well-endowed and who are perverted in nature. I think as that stereotype is slowly reversed over time, you will see more white women with asian male partners.

LOL, the way you asked the question is kinda offensive. Are you saying that all East Asians look alike (look Chinese)? Well anyways, to answer your question I think we mean East Asians when we say asians.
