Only pythag stat geeks would care about scoring margin as relevant to how good teams are. :p Otherwise, a loss is a loss, whether its 15-1 or 2-1.

The rangers are single handily keeping us out of the playoffs. Why can they spend so much more than us.

Why do the Rangers draw 3M plus in a smaller market than Houston?

Then why does zhouston brag about being the 4th largest city in the US?

Media market size is different than size of a city's population.

Houston is likely already the 3rd most populated city in the US.

Metro size is more accurate.... and based on that, Houston is still behind DFW (despite growing).

Media market size is relevant. Its why networks cater to certain markets. Fans of a team presumably are those that can be reached via television... thus the amount of actual TV viewers is very important to determining whether or not a market can support a sports team.

That's strictly city-limit population. Since Houston is so damn big, area wise, and they virtually annexed any surrounding city, it gets credit for the majority of the population of the metro area.

NY, Boston, Chicago, Philly, DFW all can claim bigger surrounding areas that do all support their respective sports teams (especially when their teams don't actually play in the main city limits).

It used to be astros country when they were good. Austin is all about the cowboys. Most of Texas is about the cowboys. I think San Antonio cares more about the cowboys than the spurs.

Dallas and Houston are similar sized markets. By GDP and population we are one of the top 5 markets. I don't know why we are labeled middle sized market. We are much bigger than cities like boston and philly. We should have a top 5-7 payroll.
