Stephenson: Asians are killing LPGA Ex-star cites ‘lack of emotion’; also says Tour must ‘promote sex appeal’ NEW YORK, Oct. 10 — Jan Stephenson is teeing it up with the men’s 50-and-older crowd this weekend, but she might get more attention for teeing off on the LPGA Asian players in a magazine interview due out next week. “THIS IS PROBABLY going to get me in trouble, but the Asians are killing our tour,” Stephenson says in the November issue of Golf Magazine. “Their lack of emotion, their refusal to speak English when they can speak English. They rarely speak.” Four of the top six money leaders on the LPGA Tour are Asian -Se Ri Pak, Grace Park, Hee-Won Han and Candie Kung. “We have two-day pro-ams where people are paying a lot of money to play with us, and they (Asians) say hello and goodbye,” Stephenson says in the Golf Magazine interview. “Our tour is predominantly international, and the majority are Asian. They’ve taken it over.” The LPGA Tour’s original glamour girl, Stephenson, 51, also believes the Tour should actively sell sex. “We have to promote sex appeal. It’s a fact of life,” Stephenson told Golf Magazine. “The people who watch are predominantly male, and they won’t keep watching if the girls aren’t beautiful. That’s not just the LPGA Tour, either. In Australia, the highest-rated television event is the women’s surf championship. Why is that?” An Australian who lives in Florida, Stephenson accepted a sponsor’s exemption to become the first woman to play in a Champions Tour event. Unfortunately, her participation in the Turtle Bay Championship this weekend in Oahu, Hawaii will probably be overshadowed by her comments in the magazine article. Stephenson won 16 tournaments, including three majors, and earned $3 million on the LPGA Tour between 1976-87. http://www.msnbc.com/news/978712.asp?0cv=CB20
Gee, I thought I preferred watching cute Asian golfers rather than fat, butch white lesbian LPGA veterans but what do I know...
Actually, loud-mouth, past-their-prime, golfers with sagging breasts are ruining the LPGA. At a time when we have athletes who can't keep their mouths shut, it's nice to find a group of athletes who can play their game with class and carry themselves with dignity. Stephenson is at best a troublemaker, at worst, belongs with the Klan. If I'm one of those non-demonstrative, Asian golfers, I'd slap her racist ass back to Australia. University (Boom Her Rang) Blue
Stevenson released an apology statement in which she blamed it on the interviwer who "conducted the interview in such a way as to highlight controversy." Apology statement
