San Diego will always be special to me due to college. It's one of my favorite places in the world. Realistically, you have a valid point about normal things being ridiculously overpriced for no reason. Also, you are completely right about the roads complete sucking dick. And Tex-Mex>>>>Cali-Mex. That being said, it seems like you didn't get a proper experience of San Diego and your impressions of the city seem to be heavily influenced by your overall experience of whatever you attended. San Diego blows almost every city in the entire USA out of the water in most every regard.
I don't get San Diego. The weather is amazing. It's right next to the beach. It's close to LA. Yet, it doesn't feel like the town is growing at all. 15 years ago I thought this was for sure a boom town. Now it's still the same. It's not Kansas City or Des Moines or something.
Total opposite for me. Hate LA; loved San Diego. Even more though, I loved the Asian food in OC between the two cities. Holy crap........I need to go back.
I know it's not a direct comparison, but I will take the amazing SD seafood over tex-mex every single day. I went in 2008 and thought it was a terrific area. I was only there for a few days, but definitely did not want to come home.
huh, you're the first person I've met who has disliked San Diego, If it wasn't so expensive, I'd move there in a heartbeat.
Totally agree w/ OP. I was underwhelmed. I felt it was too sterile. Give me dirty Houston with a Lone Star, thanks.
Beautiful city, great seafood, lots to of cool stuff to do. That being said I also had a weird vibe from the city. Didn't particularly care of the SD people.
I am very fortunate to live in San Diego and work at a office overlooking the cliffs of Torrey Pines. Seriously I've traveled quite a bit and no where comes close to San Diego.
Portland had the same vibe when I was there in July. However, I was expecting as much, so it didn't bother me a bit. I went with it and just took it as a super relaxed trip. I can see where it could be unnerving though.
I have been many times, usually stay in Gaslamp quarter, but also often go to La Jolla. Not sure what is there to dislike. Only thing I would agree on is that Tex-Mex is superior to Cal-Mex.
Roads in bad shape? Have you been around 290 lately? I was around downtown during the comic con and didn't see any road issues. There's just more to do within shorter distance compared to Houston. Didn't try their cali-mex so I'll take your word for it.
Can someone translate what an "overall lack of urgency" is supposed to mean? Is everyone driving ten miles under the speed limit or something?
