You ever pump gas and someone pulls up next to you asking if you could spare some change so that he could put some gas in his car?
A guy once came up to me in the parking lot of an auto parts store with a broken fan belt in his hand, saying he needed a little help so he could get a new one. I gave him a couple of bucks. A couple of weeks later I see the same guy with the same broken fan belt at a different store. He approached me and I told him that he already got me. He just laughed it off and said "oh, I already got you? Alright, go ahead then."
^ you are a good man for doing that. Unless that a reference that went way over my head. I apologize in advance.
yep. "we ran out of gas and money. i'm trying to drive with my family to florida for a funeral". I didn't believe, but gave em $5 on the off-chance it was real. i've also been helped out by a homeless guy at a gas station who witnessed someone hit my car while i was in the convenience store. He chased that car down in the street as they tried to leave the scene. badass dude who wouldn't accept more than a Coke as a thank you
So, he's in his car at a gas station. Well, not really panhandling if they actually put gas in their car. At least you know they aren't lying about what they want to use the money for. I'd say, "sure, get out of your car and let's put some gas in it." Then if he drives away, you know he was lying.
I've had dudes in much nicer cars than mine ask for change. Confuses me. Why buy such a nice car if you can't afford the gas?
This has happened to me several times. It is an obvious panhandling scam. Some of them have good stories, but they are all fake.
There was a homeless guy outside of a mcdonalds off 290 once and I decided to go inside because the drive thru line was way too long. I pass by him on the way in and order 2 cheeseburgers for me and a whole meal for him. I go outside and hand it to him and say, "here you go man." He looks at me and the meal and asks back to me, "Can you just give me money instead?" I look at him mad as hell and then just drop the bag and proceed to stomp on it and without saying a word, walk away. I dont know what he was going through or what he needed the money for but when someone extends an olive branch of some sort, you take it and say thank you. Ive lost all faith in homeless humanity and that makes me sad actually. There are too many motherfuqers out there waiting on a hand out. It has made me jaded and unable to help out people who truly are in need. The few times I do give out money now, I question the hell out of the beggar of their background and why there at this point in their life. It might be a tad demeaning but hey, could it be anymore demeaning than being the ones asking someone for money?
I've seen and heard it all, burned by dam near all of them. Women with babies, deaf people handing notes, tha ol fan belt fumblerooski, tha oI I need gas bull**** spill, tha ol surround sound set up. I'm done with them all and the answers no.
Years ago I had low tire pressure so I pulled to a gas station to put air in. I went through all my change trying to find quarters so it was laid out over the passenger seat. A guy comes over with a story of how he needs some change for the bus. I told him fine whatever and gave him some of the change. As he walked away he says "not gonna lie, I'm going to buy a beer." I no longer give spare change to anyone.
