Anyone know what file format it will use? I'd like to see it use AAC, just like the Mac version. Up to this point, however, I don't think PC users have been able to use an iPod's ability to play AAC files. Hopefully, that will change with the release of iTunes for Windows. I haven't really looked in to iTunes, but I'm assuming you have to use an iPod. Right? If that's true, do you think they'll ever support the use of other players? If they use the AAC format, I guess it would also require other players coming out to support it as well.
iTunes from the very beginning used a boat load of mp3 players. iTunes was available well before the iPod ever hit the scene. Trust me on this one, I was at Apple when iTunes, Mac OS 9, X, and iPod were released. I am hoping that iTunes for Windows works as well as it does for Mac. Then maybe we'll see soem more converts. There is a difference between getting things done just good enough and getting things done in a way that both works well and is artistic in its presentation. That's why I will NEVER go back to Windows.
That's good to know, because I'm a bigger fan of flash-based players. I have an RCA Lyra RD-1080 with 128mb and I have a hard time filling it up with stuff I want to listen to. Although, I am warming up to the idea of having everything on one player and being able to easily browse through all of it easily. I'll likely have to buy a new player sometime or another. Mine doesn't have any kind of support for music files with digital rights management. All the pay-to-download services, however, only support players that do. So there may be a new player in the future (although I imagine that it will be awhile). Does anyone hear use their iPod (or other hard drive player) when jogging or working out? That's the only thing I would worry about. That and the price.
When I got one for a cheaper price as an employee (25% off) when they first came out I beat the hell outta that thing. Never skipped once. I sold it though because I never got as much use out of it as I thought I would. Just in case Apple legal is "listening in", it was sold to another Apple employee...
iPods are soooo awesome. i like the music store, but ther are still ways to get ur music free, not that i would do it..... and then thers itunes which is the best mp3 playing software ive ever used... winamp is a far second.
I have a first generation iPod from several years ago -- I use it every time I run on my treadmill (3-5 times per week for the past year and a half). No problems whatsoever.
