Nene seems like a nice guy. Despite his big intimidating frame, he likes to spread love and huge. Look at this hug he's about to give, despite Butler trying to push away. Some players are just haters. Spoiler
Be great if he can stay healthy and contribute about 20 mpg as back up center, assuming no DMo who I imagine would get a chunk of the center minutes.
Maybe starter to begin the season maybe. Thats just cuz we see Nene now. Though if Capela has back to back good games in preseason there will be claims that Capela IS READY as starter But Nene can ONLY be counted on for 60 games. Thats playing just 22-25mpg at backup minutes. For league minimum thats still nice value. It'll probably be Capela as the "Gortat-lite" starter and Nene backing up at least 70 games
At least he looks in shape for the season, there were times in Washington he didn't appear to have optimal conditioning.
I feel the opposite, that Nene should finish games for us but not necessarily get the bulk of the minutes, at least early in the season. As a 34yo we should control his minutes and that includes not starting him until late in the season/playoffs. Of course this is all contingent on him having gas left in the tank. Otherwise we have a perfectly fine center in Capella.
Clint is still developing. Clint needs to develop his shot creating and passing skills. Nene can do both pretty well right now. Nene is more physical in the post than Clint is right now. I like Clint and think he is on the right path, but right now he is only and screener and roller on offense. Decent rebounder and rim protector. Maybe he can learn somethings from Nene. I definitely think he should be in the weight room with him if nothing else. Clint may come off the bench behind Nene for a while until he shows he is ready. I think it will be beneficial to have a C that can create his own shot from anywhere on the court and not be limited to just screening and rolling and posting up on one block all game.
It wouldn't surprise me to see Nene start at C so long he is considered "healthy" but imo Ryno fits better next to Clint as far as floor balance. But he'll see time next to both Clint and Nene significantly so they'll need to find a way to make it work
Decent = good He does all the fundamental things, box out, passes good from the elbow, decent posting, soft jumper. When I was watching him in Argentina vs Brazil game I realized that may be he is really a DMo replacement more than we tought. The thing he did best was move the ball around helping the guards to change the angle of attack. It really made me sad, and I hope i´m wrong, I really like DMo
