Just wondering if anyone has modified their car? What kind car and what have you done. 92 Mustang GT in the shop getting rust rewelded and repainted/windshield replaced, and yellowing headlights/foglamps replaced. Also ordered a new carpet, a good set of used seats, and a replacement center console. Oh, and I ordered a set of Cobra R rims to replace the stock, weathered Pony rims. So in the regard to appearance, I haven't changed anything except the rims. In regards to performance I have installed a 65mm Throttle Body, 67mm EGR spacer, 73 mm C&L Mass Air Flow, Explorer upper and lower intake, 1.7 Crane Cobra roller rockers, Air Silencer has been removed, K&N box filter, ASP Underdrive pulleys, Black Magic Fan, 3 row radiator, 130 amp alt, smog pumps and cats have been removed, and 3.73 FMS rear gears. I have some GT-40 heads, a B-303 cam, BBK longtube headers(ceramic coated), and BBK shorty h pipe in my garage waiting to be put on. I'm still waiting on BBK Cold Air Intake Fenderwell kit with a K&N filter, and a Steeda Triax shifter.
I'm thinking about modifying mine. I have a Nissan SE-R. I will do Nismo shocks and springs first (JDM and I get to keep my warranty!!). Then I may do exhaust and CAI. If I still want to spend money I'll get cams and header. I still don't know if I want to spend my money on this stuff though. Pretty expensive, and I don't race. How much power do you think you'll put down with all that?
sweet man i just got a 02 Mustang GT and plan on doing a lot of the same type of mods to it... as with everything, all it takes is money so the mods will be slow in coming, but someday!
I have two modded vehicles: 1972 International Harvester 100 series stepside pickup- -Torch Red Corvette paint by PPG -Cummins Turbo Diesel -Allison 4-speed heavy duty automatic -400 watt stereo with Pioneer head unit and 10-disc CD changer 1986 Porsche 928 -Callaway cars turbo kit blowing at 12.5 psi, good for 500 h.p. -Mitsubushi intercooler /hi flow water pump -cross drilled rotors (front & rear) -large custom 2 core radiator -Large custom Air box -Skunk 2 coilovers -Bosch fuel management system -dry sump oil pan -Modified radiator for air box flow - 17" Carrera 2 cup wheels -remote oil cooler w/fan red-line NS trans oil (works great) -Vortech super FMU breather catch can -Vortech blow off valve -HKS turbo timer -Bosch 30lbs fuel injectors RMB -Pioneer head unit with 6 speakers plus 10" subwoofer driven by a 400 watt amp. That's five years of work done with my own hands plus thousands of dollars in parts and I unfortunately have the busted knuckles and empty wallet to show for it. I would strongly advise you if you're going to mod your car to: 1. make sure it doesn't make your car emissions illegal 2. make sure that your engine runs fine without any problems after you put on the mods. Getting the Porsche to put out that kind of power and run took months of trial and mostly error before I figured out how to get all of those disparate engine elements to speak to one another. So don't do any work on your daily driver, especially if you need to drive to work the next day!
Man, I drive a sweet 1995 Ford Ranger with all of the tricks and mods that come straight stock from the factory, baby! What if you did have a 350z? Mod it all you want. I just don't get why people waste money trying to get more performance out of a car that was not built for high performance. I'd rather blow that money on a car built to perform. Different strokes for different folks.
Who in the United States of America has a Skyline GT-R? Except for 27 folks. Actually, I don't know. You can get those imported through motorex, i think. let me check real quick.
yeah and I could get that dude from Monster Garage to build a golf cart that would put some fear into you. I don't think I've ever seen a Skyline on the road. maybe I just haven't looked. you knew where I was going with my comment DoD.
They are quite rare and quite fast. The closest we will get to one is the new rear wheel drive platform that supports the 350Z and the G35 coupe/sedan because it is shared with the new Skyline. The Skyline has AWD and a monster twin turbo mill, capable of putting out tons of h.p. with the right mods. Skyline GT-R Which is prettier, the red shark like I drive or the Nissan?
Well, my car is one of those econoboxes "sport-tuned" from the factory, and now Nissan is offering aftermarket warrantied upgrades for the car. Stuff from Japan, not crap like most aftermarket stuff. But like I said in my post, I'm not sure if it's worth the money. I have not done a single mod on it.
Considering I see a lot of ugly-ass modded Civics and Integras, I'll have to go with import. Also, the Camaro Z28 was discontinued. If the domestic crowd was big I'm sure they'd be buying the LS1.
I never cared too much for Performance enhancement on my cars, but my brother was crazy into it and got ahold of some of my cars and tweaked them a bit. In High School mid 90's I had a '91 300ZX, that I got a Stillen Exhaust for then later in College I got a '97 Mustang Cobra and added an exhaust, headers and lowered it to get better handling and performance. I sold it after two years and lost on it! Now I drive a Lexus SC400. My brother had a 95 Supra Twin Turbo that he had a turbo timer on, a straight pipe and some other crap that gave it about 450 hp. It was a beast. After that he got an Acura NSX. Silver with Enkei wheels 18" He had a clear casing over the engine like the Ferrari Modenas and a red roll bar. He had Headers (sp?), an exhaust and a nitrous kit that was very, very rarely used. This car was a machine, but it was funner just to cruise around in and get attention. My car coming in Two weeks is pretty weak power-wise by comparison: A 2004 BMW 530 Sport. It'll be a six speed manual but only about 230 hp. I may change the wheels, but probably won't do much.
I think the import scene has exploded, since the only American car worth modding is the stupid Mustang. I really hate these ricer wannabes with their sticker encrusted, distorted bass thumping, neon underneath and on the windshield wiper fluid dispensers, loud-ass, 4 cylinder slow mobiles. Check out some of these idiots:
Kam & Mr. Clutch, The "Scene" is a bunch of crap. To be quite honest there are very few truly quality modified cars. Its a bunch of civics and 'stang's without an exhaust, catalytic and a racing stripe. It annoys me to have to deal with these idiots trying to race from light to light and stupid movies like the fast and the furious simply perpetuate this behavior. This may be rude. But don't try to make your car into something its not. Japanese writing and a stripe add "0" horsepower. A sports car is one not just because someone juices a crappy engine, but its one that can handle and is a quality driving machine. Not some grocery cart with nitrous. Word of advice. Save your money and stop putting crap on your car and invest it properly and one day you will be able to buy a real sports car.
