Ummm... reason nobody's commenting on this? Anybody anybody, I thought for sure T_J would have brought it up by now. http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/10/10/elec04.prez.democrats.debate/index.html
I did in fact watch 30 minutes of the debate last night. The most interesting moment came when Lieberman called out Clark for flip-flopping on Iraq. Clark then shouted down Lieberman for attacking him, to which Lieberman responded by saying 'none of us are above questioning'. The candidates are in meltdown phase at this point. No candidate looks good. Clark looked angry and defensive the entire evening. Dean was his typical short little angry man self. Sharpton, Mosely-Braun and Kucinich once again played the role of court jester. Lieberman is perhaps the most boring human alive. Kerry looks like the silver spoon that he was born with is now firmly lodged up his hind quarters. Gephardt and Edwards are unnoticeable. I'm enjoying watching this race to determine who gets crushed by Bush in a year.
As much as we disagree about many things, you're spot-on here. I'd love to vote for someone not named Bush in '04, but the potential alternatives don't look any better. SCREWED [AGAIN].
Sorry to hear that Buck. I missed it last night, but I still have hope with Clark, Kerry, and after hearing a couple of interviews... I no longer exclude Dean, but he has an uphill battle for me. Guess I'll need to watch catch some of the tape from last night.
Question for you T_J: Have you never seen a Presidential Primary Race before? Seriously, I could understand your statements that Clark is falling apart and that the Dems have no chance if this is the first Primary you’ve ever paid attention to. Full of attacks and slanted statements used to discredit the opponents. This is standard stuff, in BOTH parties. If you had bothered to watch past primaries, or maybe you just blocked it out of your memory, some of the guys that now say W is the greatest thing since sliced bread were saying in Early 2000 that he was trying to use his father's name to gain office. That he had no real political experience. That he had shady business dealings. That he had no clue about foreign policy. Then when the nominee gets chosen they all fall in line (for the most part) so that their party's candidate can get more votes in the general election. Even though we disagree on nearly every front, you seem to be a pretty bright guy, they don't let idiots into Rice. You have to know that this is standard practice. I also doubt that you actually think that the next election is going to be a “Crushing" victory for Bush. He didn't win the majority in the last election. You really think he is going to improve his standing with a lackluster economy and a war that is slipping in its popularity? Seriously come on. Granted Bush will win Texas. I'll admit that as fact. But nearly every Republican can win Texas. I realize that it is your posting style to make grandiose statements followed by somewhat clever one liners in all caps, but you can't really believe this is going to be a slam dunk for the GOP.
I....I was....I was watching the baseball playoffs. Hanging my head in shame! GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need Clark to get past his defensiveness so he can settle down and fight back. The one thing he should say with aplomb, "I learned the hard way not to answer hypothetical questions. That's what happened with Iraq. I have not flip-flopped. I always said this incident should have been taken care of internationally, multilaterally." Hopefully that will come. And since George W. Bush might very well be the worst president in history, I don't see his election (Note: I did not write "re-election") next year as a slam-dunk. At all. I do think if Kerry had a personality he'd be a front-runner. Because that's all Dubya is. A hood ornament on the Rolls Royce driven by corporations and military contractors. The fact that Karl Rove could get someone like GWB (the Bush family name helped) into high office is amazing. "Compassionate conservative." Would that it were true. People actually think Bush cares about ordinary Americans. He has been handed everything his whole life, all the way up to his current job. He manages to go to the best private schools in the country, the best universities, and somehow the only education he has gained is....it's who you know. Hopefully Dubya doesn't have brothers in states other than Florida.
John Kerry came off looking the most Presidential last night. He was the only candidate to mention the White House leak, and his limbaugh joke was good. It was funny though when they all sat down in front of the audience, Wesley Clark rolled up his sleaves and you could see John Edwards look at Clark and roll his up too. Then John Kerry stood up to answer his question (he was the third or fourth to be questioned ) and everyone started standing up to answer theirs too. When this race gets down to 4 candidates , which I think will be Howard Dean , John Kerry , Dick Gephardt, and Wesley Clark or John Edwards, people will start to notice John Kerry a lot more. Kerry and silverspoons ? Who are you supporting again ?
