I bought my last set from Lowes about five years ago. Top loader Maytag. I shopped for best price and Lowes was the best.

Lowes accepted my movers coupon and matched the price of a competitor for a good deal.

My wife and I are also looking to get a new clothes washing machine. We know we want "top loading" over front loading.

But, we are not sure about choosing between a washing machine with or without an agitator. Anyone have any thoughts on that? It sounds like agitator style are on the way out, but at the same time the non-agitator versions have been prone to more unbalanced load situations.

When shopping for ours, the reviews for the non-agitator versions said they tear up your clothes.

How is the lid lock on the washer? Mine takes a while to unlock if I want to during a cycle. Looking to get a bigger one soon with better unlock functionality.

Appreciate the comments. My wife said in the reviews she read the non-agitator ones tangle up clothes. So maybe that is an issue.

    Thanks for the comment.

If you want open box, look for floor models or scratch and dent deals. Sears Outlet store always has lots.

I bought my current set when the newer model came out. Saved about 60%-70% off it's normal price. Very highly rated Kenmore set, but the new model was out and so they were really trying to clear out their inventory.

Like buying mattresses, where they are normally a ~44-60% margin for the retailers, they'll let them go close to cost to get the new series in the warehouses / sales floors.
