I don't know about the other countries, but Lily Z. was born in the USA. There is a very interesting documentary called TopSpin on Netflix about her (and 2 other people) and their run at the London Olympics.

How is this not a more popular thing? Fiji looks like the Monstars of Rugby Sevens. How do dudes 6'3-6'6 and that big run that fast? These guys in Rugby sevens are impossibly athletic.
not that i watch much soccer (basically a few world cup matches each time), but it's hard to imagine a team dominating a game more and only tying than the uswnt just did. colombia basically had 3 real shots, all from distance, and made 2 of them and hit the crossbar on the other. and even given that solo completely whiffed on one and tried to punch the other when extending her fingers would have blocked it, i watch the kicks that colombia woman had and wonder why more soccer players, women or men, can't do that. part of what frustrates me watching soccer is watching people get free kicks and kick it into the stands or corner kicks that don't come anywhere near a teammate. and yet this person kicks three powerful line drives straight at the goal. even though solo should have stopped it, that free kick that was almost a corner kick was struck so perfectly. and yet hardly anyone seems to do that. i feel like that's the only thing soccer players should practice. they are such high-leverage moments compared to everything else that happens. colombia could barely possess the ball, but they tied the game because someone could actually kick a free kick at the goal.
Olympics, especially Summer, are the greatest sporting event... so many different games going on in so little time. Go to a bar and watch 3 events on 5 tvs, basically 24/7. Doesn't matter if it's live if you've never seen it. Great times right now, then real football games shortly after.. nice.

crazy thing is Phelps had 2 horrible turns, otherwise he would've won by a lot more. it was honestly a pretty bad race by the top 3 favorites, but... "you come at the king, you best not miss!"
Gymnastics took place earlier in the day. I'm guessing they don't put it on an ancillary channel and air it live because it would hurt ratings in primetime.
I agree completely. The prime time coverage is spotty at best; I know you can't show everybody, but they could show more of our major competitors instead of "close up on the U.S. team sitting around waiting". They do offer a live stream, though it's been problematic; also many of us with jobs/kids can't tune in any old time. You can download the video later, but there will be spoilers. Some sort of TV channel coverage can at least be DVR'ed as it happens.
