My boss was at a party this weekend asked if he wanted a beer and said sure. The host mixed a dark colored beer with a light colored beer. He had his doubts but said it tasted really good. The problem is he never asked what the two beers were. My question is which beers taste good mixed together?

A "black and tan" is Guinness and Bass
    (spoiler for size)

I used to enjoy them once upon a time.

    Start with the classics.

Black and Tan - Guinness with a pale ale
Snake Bite - lager or stout with hard cider

Interesting, I've actually always had it with Guinness & Harp. I wonder if the choice of lager is a regional thing (I'm in the Northeast)?

Harp is God awful. I'd rather just be sober.

Their Xmas ale and Spring bock hardly qualify as drinkable.

I could see the elissa helping out with all that sweetness though.

We called them Black and Tans in NYC (Guinness and Bass) and in Houston and everywhere else I can remember. I've never heard of this Harp nonsense. I don't drink anymore because I'm an alcoholic and now my body rejects it too (Lyme disease) but I remember it being the beer I'd get when I wanted to drink classy. Otherwise it was all about quantity over quality. One time I got a large bonus at work and bought the bar Black and Tans at Rudyards. Luckily it was happy hour and they weren't too busy.

It's 2016. There are so many options. Why in the world would anyone buy Bass, Harp, or Guinness? Gross.

I agree with you that it is the current year.

I'm less impressed with the argument. A lot of people go around drinking crappy beer they think is good just because it's from a new brewery.

There are thousands of beers made in the US that are much better than any of these 3. Guinness isn't nearly as bad as Bass and Harp. But, by today's standards, they are terrible. Just my opinion.

Guinness and Harp. It's called a Half and Half.

Half and Half (Harp + Guiness) is just as common as a black and tan

But as another poster said, there are too many good beers out there to be wasting time with the bad stuff

I can only mix two drinks if I know what the resulting concoction will be named.
