But the NBA is the best league in basketball, as a competitor, why wouldn't you want to play against the best players in the world and see how you measure up?

Because everyone is different and everyone's goals are different. There is no rule about how to be a competitor.

It was 4.8 million over 2 yrs, scrub money. Andersen showed flashes of what he could have provided as a complimentary bench player next to Yao but unfortunately he had to instead replace Yao that season.

Unfortunately we didn't have the full MLE (let alone more than that) to offer Llull.

Now to get him (not saying we will), we'd have to free up cap space.

    Sooo...........

    Thanks.
    Thats what I mean.
    2.4 M is a very poor offer.
Pay him 4 or 5 and Lul will play for the rockets.

Would need to dump Brewer, then sign Llull, then sign DMo.

Completely agree with this. You've got Brooklyn sitting there with half a roster, and in desperate need of assets. Why not trade Brewer and a few 2nds for nothing?

I like draft and stashes, but something needs to change about having to use cap room or an exception to sign your own drafted players. They need a rule like 1st rounders that gives you full bird rights after they've been overseas after a certain number of years.

Yeah, signing Llull at this point would be a pretty good move to be honest.

Sergio Llull will be 29 wishing the 1st couple of weeks of this coming NBA season. There is a zero chance that Daryl Morey signs him and brings him over this season which means he will be 30 "IF" he signs and plays the 2017/2018 season.

I saw Daryl Morey's tweet and laughed a little at the Scola comparison. Luis was 27 his first season in the NBA, thats 3 years younger than Llull will be "IF" he comes over next year. The other thing is that Scola was wanting to come over a lot sooner but San Antonio wouldn't bring him over. There is no sign that Sergio Llull has any desire to play in the NBA or for the Houston Rockets.

Haven't really followed recent developments, do we really know he wanted to come here? A lot of posters here saying Morey should've offered more, others saying Morey didn't want Llull.

Is there any source/statement or is everyone just guessing?

Problem with Llull now is that if he's coming someday to the NBA he's going to do it past his prime. He depends a lot on his quickness and I don't see him with this same freshness in 2-3 years. And must be considered that any rookie needs his adaptation process to the NBA lifestyle, he's not gonna arrive and succeed from the first day. He has decided to spend the best years of his career in Madrid. I just don't see him maintaining that atheticism for many more years. He may play in the NBA someday but there is a sense that he's wasting what could have been a pretty nice NBA career.

It's been mostly speculation about Llull. But if he were to come over to the NBA (and nobody knows that he will), it'd be for significantly more than he might have been offered a year ago. Hell, 3rd-tier players really cashed in this summer.

So, if Morey doesn't find a way to clear cap space? No Llull to the Rockets. If Llull doesn't tell another team with capspace that he'll accept an offer of XYZ to play there? Can't trade his rights, either.

Yeah Scola wasn't the best example for Morey to use. Prigioni or Sergio Rodriguez's second coming over would be better references.

Point being.... you probably aren't bringing over a prospect with upside to be the next great anything anymore, you are bringing over someone who can contribute immediately AS A ROLE PLAYER.

I don't understand why people are so worked up over this guy like he should be forgotten about and never spoken of again. He's got several years where he could come over and be a valuable contributor if not even start if needed. Is he going to be the next face of the franchise superstar for the next decade... hell no... but he was a second rounder stash to begin with. The problem as always with Clutchfans is expectations vs. reality.

(Also Sergio isn't the only person to blame for it not working out in the past either. Keep in mind the Rockets have made moves like trading for Lawson in the past which would push Llull's role to the bench on paper along with resigning Pat Bev, and so far there is no indication they've been willing to use cap space beyond the full MLE to get him here.)

In reality the Rockets have a nice role player they can bring over in the next couple of years if it works out. If it doesn't then it was an incredibly low cost investment that cost the Rockets nothing... only Les' cash several years ago. Why are we so worked up about Sergio Llull? Bringing him over at 32 vs 24 has very little implications.... unless you were expecting the next great Rockets PG of the future... which in that case you need to have your head examined.

That actually does sound pretty appealing.
