My PSAT score was high enough to earn me the honor of being named a National Merit Scholar. I was offered free rides at publicly-funded state institutions of low academic rigor, but instead decided to go to Rice.
I take it a week from next Tuesday... BTW, for the average student, the PSAT is infinitely more important than the SAT. A 1400+ SAT is really only important if you are looking to attend Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and other schools with ridiculously high admission standards. Earning the title of national merit finalist or even scholar can help anyone. It is especially important in helping those who graduated out of their schoo's top 10% get into Texas public universities.
True dat! My roommate in college (yes, my roomy and not me; I scored 1320 on the old SAT and don't have any idea about my PSAT) scored a 600 on the SAT!! Yes, a 600!! Well, he enrolled in Jr. College after H.S., got into UC Berkeley 2 years later, graduated with honors and makes 6 figures and he's not even 30 yet. SAT scores don't determine your ability to succeed!
PSAT is pretty much pointless as I recall. I can't remember what I got on that. I can remember my SAT. but not psat.....i hope those tests are thrown out.
I scored 1160 on psat and a 1210 on sat my sophomore year. Then many years later when I had to reenter college while i was in the army I took the sat again...i was 24 at the time...and got a 1410. It was so much easier as an adult...
Whoa, whoa, whoa. I had no idea the scoring system changed to a 240 point scale! But the SAT is still on a 1600 scale? My best friend in high school got a 1600 on the SAT. Smartest guy I knew. Could have gone anywhere, but stayed in Texas to go to school.
TASP? Are you serious. I'm no genius and I got 3 PERFECT SCORES on the TASP. Granted SAT and ACT are nerve racking, but they are no comparison to the GRE and even that pales to the LSAT. Those logic games questions will seriously melt your brain.
when i say the TASP is an important test i mean that unless you are exempt from it you have to pass it otherwise you have to take remedial classes in the subjects you fail. These classes do not count for anything. They don't transfer and are worthless. I had no trouble doing the reading or writing sections. The math section though i've bombed 3 times. Finally i just decided to to work my way up to college algebra by taking the 3 remidial math classes. Those classes were the biggest joke, had an A in all 3 of them. The college algebra class i'm taking is a joke. The professor doesn't believe in tests which really worked well for me. Because i failed the math part of the TASP I needed at least a B in the class otherwise i would be repeating it. I can confidently tell i have an A in that class.
I got a 1420 on my PSAT in 1990. Obviously, that shows what a good candidate I was for post-secondary education. I finally graduated with my BSc in CIS in 1998. Of course, I had a little fun in-between.
drapg, the PSAT has always been on a 240 point scale...On your score report, they provide you with a scale that approximates what your SAT score would be.
