Math is more complicated than that and we can't really calculate the answer but I think it is fair to say BvS didn't lose money.

It had a huge first domestic weekend (where tons of profit % comes) and it was still #1 the second weekend. It wasn't the kickoff to a DCU they wanted but I doubt they lose money in the end.

Compare to Ghostbusters 145 production budget, 100 mil marketing (or more) and opened at #2 and dropped to #5 the second weekend. It also has zero chance to double is domestic gross with overseas box office like BvS. The math will be flipped. So that steaming pile will definitely lose cash and lots of it.

I thought all ticket sales went to the studios and theatres made money off concessions, memberships, etc.

Looks like a bummer even with a popsicle sucking villain.

Not all, but the vast majority does, though the amount decreases over time, and they do not receive as much in foreign markets.

You are guessing. You don't have hard numbers. Plus...these movies make a good chunk of their money in streaming and dvd markets. They will be fine.

Also, is this another great movie idea ruined like BvS because of the inability to create a solid narrative for a 2.5 hour freaking movie?

    All Studio movies lose money
    Avatar 'lost money'
    That is merely Movie Accounting

Movie Accounting is garbage and their numbers can never be trusted
That said. . .the studios made money but they will report it as a loss

Just got out of the theatre. I really liked this movie. Will Smith as Deadshot was a badass. I was really worried about his portrayal.

As for the villain, I mean it's the type of villain you'd expect in this type of movie.

I think we gotta understand non-movie accounting before we make allegations about movie accounting. These guys all file corporate tax returns and 10-Ks.

I saw this yesterday and the only bright spot is seeing Harley Quinn's ass.

Other than that, pass on this movie.

    I saw it.

My previous post mentioned I like going to see a superhero movie and just switching off and enjoying the 2 hours in front of me.

I felt it very, very hard to sit there and enjoy this movie.

    My personal opinions:

    Leto was horrible.
Cara was ATROCIOUS as the witch.
The attempts to force humour were cringeworthy.
Margot Robbie was legit the only good thing to me about this movie.

    So disappointed.

27 percent on RT now; should I be worried? Nonetheless, I am seeing it tomorrow with my GF because of that T-mobile offer.

for a superhero movie it's a 5 to 6 bumped up to 7 because of margot robbie. for me, if this movie is compared to other genres it's probably a 4.

    This movie sucked donkey balls!

    The plot was horrible.

The only good thing about it was Margot Robbie and her day dreaming and flashbacks.

I don't care too much for the character but I think Will Smith did a decent job playing Deadshot. I just don't think Will Smith has anything left in the tank anymore. He needs to re-invent himself or he will end up like Denzel Washington.
