Does anyone know what significant player we passed up for Boki? And what number our draft pick was that we chose Boki with.

Can we please for once not go down that road!
This thread can/will only end up in the anti-Boki group whinning on how this doesn't live to their expectations on being the new Stojakovic!

The 2002 draft was only 10 deep. Everyone else is a flyer, maybe someone will turn out, maybe they won't. We couldn't trade up into the top ten for that very reason.

We could have traded our Ming pick, and gotten Odom and #8 and #12 from the Clippers. Now, maybe we could have packaged the #15/#12, but I doubt it, because we probably trotted out #15 and Mobely to get into the top 10, with no takers.

So, basically, we could have walked away with Odom, Stoudamire (who we really wanted and WOULD have picked), Woods and Boki, instead of Ming and Boki. Knowing what we know now, with hindsight, although Stoudamire has been amazing, I still would take Ming.

I have never posted a negative thing about Boki and we still have a lot of preseason action left BUT...

Has that guy ever hit an open jumper?

I know he makes one now and then, but it really does seem like he misses every shot he takes.

I thaught that the selling point on Boki before the Draft was that he was a great slasher to the basket, not that he was a great shooter.I anticipated that he would only play a very limited role for the Rox.

    Quickly...without looking it up...

What famous Euro had these numbers in the 3rd season after he was drafted?

    21+ mpg / 8.4 ppg / 3.0 rpg / 1.5 apg / 1.1 to/g
37.8 % from the field and 32.0 % from the arc.

None other than Peja Stojakovic, who was drafted by the Kings in 1996 and played in Greece for 2 years before coming to the NBA in '98.

Players the Kings past up for Peja @ #14:
    15 - Steve Nash
    16 - Tony Delk
    17 - Portland - Jermaine O'Neal
    19 - Walter McCarty
    20 - Zydrunas Ilgauskas
    24 - LA Lakers - Derek Fisher
26 - Detroit (from San Antonio) - Jerome Williams

Granted there's not much after 15, but what would have taken to move up to 9 or 10 to land Amare or Butler?

Our 15 plus future #1? plus Cato? plus Cat? plus anything besides SF?

Landing Yao and either one would have been

Exactly. Why are people expecting him to be a great outside shooter? because he's a European? His game is penetration and dribbling the ball off his foot.

I don't know about the former but he's doing a great job on the latter.

I don't think Boki can score with his wife.

Bokie isn't hopless, yet. As stated, we were informed that Bokie was a slasher. From what I have seen in the preseason, he is. We just assumed that he was an amazing 3pt shooter from workouts and the fact he was from Europe. Once he calms down some, I think he will begin to hit those open shots.

And anyone who wants to compare him to Dan Lanky, Bokie already looks so much better than Dan. Bokie can handle the ball (as seen when he drove the hoop,) he can slash, he can rebound very well, and he isn't afraid to shoot!

Right now, even if he gets better I don't think he can start. He still needs to work on his defense. RL torched him last night.

Yetti is actually right for a change. Everybody here and the media painted Boki as the next Peja and people were splooging in their jeans when they heard he was perfect during a shooting drill at his workout. Of course, when Rudy talked about him, all he mentioned was that Boki dunked hard in practice the way Clyde used to.

Carols Boozer should never in the second round. He is one of the greatest steals of that draft.

That one is funny, but mean. Let's at least wait until the regular season to complain about the guys. Moochie and Boki have already been crucified and the season hasn't even started.

There are steals and busts for every draft. Looking at what NBA.draft reviewed, Boki was the best pick at the time, Boki was even predicted to be picked before our 15th.

Bottom Line: Boki is only going into his 2nd year, he barely got to play last year. Sure, he played poorly when given the chance (summer league, preseason so far), but he is still young and I believe he still has the chance to be good.

Edit: This review was done before the draft.

still, people will claim boki is supposed to be our 3pt specialist...even when confronted with evidence to the contrary.

It maybe preseason but for players like Boki this is their playoffs. Boki knows he is being graded out by JVG during the preseason.
