I'm starting to feel like Bballholic's fascination with Rubio goes far beyond basketball. Dude must sit around masturbating to Rubio highlight videos.

Ricky Rubio is the classic example of a foreign player that brings nothing much to the table, yet you guys have a sick obsession with him because he's foreign. No thank, I'll stick with Bev

Our team is now coached by MDA who values ball movement tremendously. Rubio is better for our team with MDA coaching us.

We don't need to argue Rubio's talent. His value should be determined based on the league wide need. Some teams have established point guards that are better overall (half the league) - some teams are building around a young point guard (LAL, ORL, ATL, DEN) - others just paid their point guard star money and wouldn't dramatically get better by trading them for Rubio (MIA, MEM, DET).

    NBA Teams Starting Point Guards

    Eastern Conference

    Atlantic Division

    Boston Celtics - Thomas
    Brooklyn Nets - Lin
    New York Knicks - Rose/Jennings
    Philadelphia 76ers - ?
    Toronto Raptors - Lowry

    Central Division
    Chicago Bulls - Rondo
    Cleveland Cavaliers - Irving
    Detroit Pistons - Jackson
    Indiana Pacers - Teague
    Milwaukee Bucks - MCW/Giannis

    Southeast Division
    Atlanta Hawks - Shroeder
    Charlotte Hornets - Walker
    Miami Heat - Dragic
    Orlando Magic - Payton
    Washington Wizards - Wall

    Western Conference

    Southwest Division

    Dallas Mavericks - Williams
    Houston Rockets - Beverly
    Memphis Grizzlies - Conley
    New Orleans Pelicans - Holiday
    San Antonio Spurs - Parker

    Northwest Division
    Denver Nuggets - Mudiay
    Minnesota Timberwolves - Rubio
    Oklahoma City Thunder - Westbrook
    Portland Trail Blazers - Lillard
    Utah Jazz - Hill

    Pacific Division
    Golden State Warriors - Curry
    Los Angeles Clippers - Paul
    Los Angeles Lakers - Russell
    Phoenix Suns - Knight
    Sacramento Kings - Collison

I'd say the teams whom Rubio would be an upgrade over their current situation:

    Philadelphia
    Dallas
    Houston
    New Orleans
    Sacramento
    Brooklyn

Philly is out because I'd struggle to believe they'd value Rubio over a higher draft pick.

Sacramento/Dallas/New Orleans/Brooklyn all make more sense than Houston. None run a high speed 3 point driven offense. All three could buy low with better assets than what it would make sense for Houston to give up. Sacramento/Dallas/New Orleans are all fringe playoff teams that all struggle to attract free agents.

At this point I'd say Ariza has a higher value to this team that Rubio would given his experience/leadership and shooting ability.

Unless Rubio starts publicly denouncing the team and demanding a trade to Houston there's little that makes sense for him to come here. He's a good player - just not the right cirumstances for the Rockets to go for him.

    He also values shooting.

That said, I'm highly skeptical of D'Antoni. The dude said Harden could average 12-13 assists when even Chris Paul doesn't average that.

we NEED good shooters, not trading anyone that shoots better than Rubio. KJ, Brewer, and some draft pick and or rights to Gentile.

"In the discussion" translated means "not a contender."

No. MDA did not say Harden could average 12-13 assists. He simply asked a question, "What about getting 12-13 assists?"

This is a classic example of taking words and twisting them to suit your own opinion.

“He’s an undervalued passer and I think we can exploit that. You know, he averaged 7 or 8 assists last year, I think we’d like to see him get 12 or 13”

Even Steve Nash never averaged 12 assists.

    Just dumb.

Then you considering Harden averaged 29 ppg on .598 TS% and it really makes no sense

    Nope.

Unless they can get him to backup Beverley and Bobby Brown.

Good research, Thanks. I agree shooting is primary need around Harden. Harden is going to get a chance to run the offense for better or for worse. The way I see it, give them a season to see what Harden and MDA can do, then next off season make the adjustments to the roster. If the team offense doesn't click with Harden as the ball handler they can retool the offense to fit his strengths and get a player to fill his weakness.

This is a trade speculation thread. Now we have two dedicated to Rubio

What's to prevent a new trend of "What's Griffin's trade value to us". "What's Westbrooks trade value to us"

There is a thread for trade speculation talk and who we need to package is a primary topic for that

But basketballholic thinks he's above the rules

It's his default answer for whenever someone asks for a little proof.

Harden's problem isn't passing the ball, he has the talent and willingness to execute the offense. Cutting down his DUMB turnovers is the issue. For example; holding the ball too long then getting trapped just to turn the ball over, etc. By eliminating the bad passes (angles in the offense that result in turnovers too frequently) within the offense itself he should be a little more effective in his decision making. Also the addition of better shooters should uptick his assists some.

I get where you are coming from with the true point guard mentally of Rubio. (I am a true point guard myself and would love the team to run a offense with one). But there is no signs of Rubio joining us for whatever reason. I think it's because MDA sold Les on Harden being the focal point. Stars score the points and sell the tickets, so Les bought in.

holic's sources confirm that while MDA didn't actually say what holic quoted him as saying, it's what MDA was thinking and meaning to say.
